March 2027. The war in Eastern Europe grinds on, warships shadow each other in the Taiwan Strait, and the world has never been closer to midnight. Age of Borders is a real-time grand strategy game with adjustable speed and pause, played on a detailed map of the real world. Take command of any of over 200 nations, from a global superpower to a small state caught between rival blocs, and guide its economy, politics, diplomacy and armed forces through the most dangerous decade of the century.
Will you broker peace, build a regional power, or lead your alliance through World War III? The world does not follow a script. It reacts to what you do.
World tension is not a meter that simply fills up on its own. It comes from nine realistic flashpoints: the Taiwan Strait, the Baltic and the Suwałki Gap, the spillover of the war in Ukraine, the Korean Peninsula, Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, the South China Sea, Kashmir, the Arctic and the South Caucasus.
Each crisis climbs a five-step escalation ladder, from gray-zone pressure to blockades, mobilization and open war.
How fast a crisis escalates depends on the balance of power, deterrence, alliances and what is happening in the other crises.
Mediate between the parties, deploy deterrent forces, back the aggressor, or press your own claims and decide at the final step whether to give the order to attack.
World War III only begins when two superpowers end up fighting on opposite sides. Whether that happens is shaped by the choices of every nation, including yours.
National focus trees: a broad general tree and a unique tree for Turkey, with mutually exclusive paths, national spirits and long-term strategies.
Industry and production: civilian and military factories, production lines that grow more efficient over time, building slots and construction queues.
Resources and trade: oil, steel and rare earth elements drive your war machine. Shortages slow production, and fuel keeps your tanks and aircraft moving.
Politics: political power, stability, war support, laws, decisions, a cabinet of advisors, elections and the ever-present risk of a coup.
Research: six technology branches tied to the calendar, with penalties for researching ahead of your time.
Draw fronts, plan multi-target offensives, build up planning bonuses and assign generals with their own skills and traits.
Terrain, fortifications, supply lines, morale and encirclement decide battles.
Every nation has a realistic power projection range and convoy capacity. Crossing the sea requires ports, and landing on a hostile coast requires amphibious capability and naval superiority in the region.
Conquest follows geography: territory far beyond your borders returns to its original owner at the peace table.
Command air wings for air superiority, close air support and strategic bombing.
Launch ballistic and cruise missiles, and hold the ultimate deterrent: nuclear weapons, with retaliation and the threat of nuclear winter.
Trade agreements, non-aggression pacts, military access, alliances, independence guarantees, arms aid and sanctions.
Prepare justifications for war, negotiate peace terms, force capitulations or settle for a white peace.
Run covert operations: cyber attacks, sabotage, propaganda and wildfires in 38 real forest regions, always at the risk of exposure.
Seize, restore or loot 54 real historical landmarks, from Topkapı Palace to the Pyramids.
Every game ends for a reason. It can be long or short, and it is shaped by the decisions you make:
Global hegemony
Victory of the Western or Eastern bloc in World War III
An armistice after a deadlocked world war
Nuclear apocalypse
The collapse of your state
A long peace kept alive by diplomacy until 2035
The judgment of history in 2040
When your game ends, a timeline of its key events shows exactly how the world got there.
Over 200 AI nations make their own decisions about national focuses, industry, research, alliances and wars.
Missions appear as the situation changes and reward you for building up, making deals and holding the line.
Army experience lets you upgrade entire unit types, and veteran divisions earn ranks.
Detailed statistics track your industry, army, territory and the state of the world over time.
New to grand strategy? A step-by-step guide walks you through every system. When war breaks out, an emergency guide shows you exactly where to click to set up fronts, generals, production and defenses. Contextual hints, alerts and an in-game manual are always one click away, and experienced players can switch the guidance off at any time.
A rotating 3D globe in the main menu with flashpoints, tension arcs and country briefings.
3D effects on the map: missile trails, explosions, air sorties, burning forests and mushroom clouds.
Low-poly 3D unit models, a day and night cycle and a tilted 3D camera.
An original soundtrack that shifts between peace, war and World War III, with air raid sirens, nuclear alerts and a living battlefield soundscape.
Fully localized into 11 languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Russian, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Japanese and Turkish. The game detects your system language automatically, and you can switch at any time in the settings. 15 Steam achievements reward conquest, industry, diplomacy, deterrence and every way the story can end.
Age of Borders is a work of fiction. Its scenario, events and outcomes are imagined and do not represent predictions or political positions.
