Octbuster can now be played in Simplified Chinese! The translation was done by Marshub, a team of human translators, not by a machine or AI. I'm a solo dev and that is costly, so it is one language for now, but I will try to add more in the future. If anything in the translation reads wrong, please report it in the Discord!patch notes:Simplified ChineseThe full game can now be played in Simplified Chinese.Change it under Settings > Gameplay > Language. If Steam is set to Chinese the game picks it on its own.Tape covers are printed in Chinese too, with their own Chinese titles, and the shelves sort them by pinyin. The tape editor works with a Pinyin IME, so you can type Chinese tape names.Translation done by humans.StreamingChat commands typed on a Chinese keyboard work now. Read full update on Steam ↗Hey everyone! The next community goal is up: Hats for Cats!Find 100,000 Octbuster Tokens together and every player's kittens get tiny hats! This patch also slows the kittens down. They were doing a bit too much of the sorting for you, so now they take breaks, hold important meetings, and leave the end of every row to you to complete. If something is broken or bugging you, the Suggestions and Bug Reports channels in the Discord are the place to tell me.Hats for CatsA new community goal: 100,000 Octbuster Tokens found by everyone together. The count carries on from the Golden Grumpy goal. When it is reached, every player's kittens get tiny hats. Read full update on Steam ↗Hey everyone! First, congratulations: together you found 50,000 Octbuster Tokens and unlocked the Golden Grumpy community reward. Every player gets the Golden Grumpy plush the next time they open the main menu.I'm jumping the version to 0.90.0 because this is the start of the final release candidates. New features are winding down from here, and until 1.0 the focus is stability and polish. From 0.90 to 1.0 I'll be spending most of my time in the Suggestions and Bug Reports channels in the Discord , so if something is broken or bugging you, that's the place to tell me!Arcade RestorationThe 16 cabinets in the arcade rows start out dirty now instead of boarded up. Hold grab on one to scrub it clean. Your free arms scrub back and forth under the crosshair, soap bubbles pop while you work, and the cabinet plays a little chime when it's done. Each of those cabinets stands for one genre. Its...
Read full update on Steam ↗Hey everyone! This one covers 0.55.1 and 0.55.2. The biggest thing is a performance fix: the game was running at full resolution no matter what your graphics preset said, so most of you should get a solid framerate boost, especially on Steam Deck. PerformanceFixed the game always rendering at full native resolution. The load screen's monitor kept running in the background after boot, and while it ran, the game ignored your render scale and upscaling settings.Your graphics preset's render scale applies again, so most presets should run a lot faster, especially Steam Deck. The image is a little softer than before on the same preset, because you were getting native resolution without knowing it.A round of smaller performance fixes.TutorialNew: after the emblem moment in the opening, Looky walks you down the shelf rows to show they're in alphabetical order. The row labels turn into letter...
Read full update on Steam ↗Party mode always felt a little flat to me, so I spent a ton of time overhauling it's look, the effects, and some performance things on the backend. Also in here: a kitten derby for streamers, first version of air hockey (work in progress), and some QoL stuff around finding the last few tapes.Party ModeParty mode got a big overhaul. Everything in this section happens while the party lights are on.A giant disco ball covered in the game's tape covers lowers from the ceiling when the party starts, and goes back up when it ends. The disco ball runs five light shows and switches every 16 beats or 10 seconds:rainbow bandsan equalizer wrapped around the ballsparklesa spirala genre roll call, where one genre's tiles light up at a timeMirror sparkles travel around the ball. Its tiles glow in their genre's color, brighter the more of that genre you've sorted. The whole floor turns into moving wat...
Read full update on Steam ↗This update contains a lot of little improvements, especially for streamers. The big one: you can rename tapes without going back to the main menu now! The tape editor is on the terminal's SYSTEM page, and when chat names a tape with !tape it shows up right there in the store. You can update the covers on the spot or let them change the next time the store loads. Also a bunch of kitten stuff, a clearer end to the opening tutorial, and four new pieces of fan art!patch notes:StreamingViewer kittens are saved with your run now (they used to disappear when you quit to the menu).Kittens per viewer starts at 3 now.!kitten and !tape don't have a cooldown for the whole chat anymore (each viewer still has a default cooldown of 60s between commands)New viewer kittens come say hi when they first spawn in now.Kittens wear their viewer's name tag while they come over to say hi to make them easier t...
Read full update on Steam ↗Mod support is finally here, and you can get mods right from the game now with the new MODS button on the main menu! I'm really excited about this one and can't wait to see what people make. As always, if you see issues or have suggestions, consider joining the discord!patch notes:StreamingNew Kittens per viewer slider on the Stream tab, from 1 to 20 (it starts at 1). !kitten gives a viewer another kitten until they reach the limit, then it calls their kittens over to say hi instead. Extra kittens get a number after the viewer's name.New !kittensayhi command: a viewer's kittens run over, gather around you and say hi. 20 channel points by default. If you already made channel-point rewards, press the create rewards button on the Stream tab again to add it.The terminal question about viewer kittens or tape names ignores every button for its first 4 seconds, so you can't answer it by acci...
Read full update on Steam ↗I have been having such a good time going around to different streams and testing out the chat commands, thanks to everyone I have met so far that managed to fend off the grumpy army:)This update is again centered around me watching different streamers and gathering feedback. If you have suggestions or bugs to report, please consider joining the discord!A reminder of all the commands: !party: The store turns into a party, with disco lights and a random cassette on the PA until the song ends. Flashing lights (Reduce Flashing & Motion in Accessibility tones them down).!kitten: A kitten wearing your name moves into the store. Type it again for another, if the streamer allows more. Once you have them all, your kittens come running.!kittensayhi: Your kittens run over, gather round the octopus and say hi.!grump: The grumpy cat hops onto a shelf, stares the octopus down, and goes for a tape....

Hold R to switch it between staying and following. Keyboard only, and you can rebind it in Settings > Controls. The Accessibility tab has two new options: Show Control Prompts turns the button legend in the bottom left on or off, and Control Prompt Size makes it smaller or a bit bigger. Read full update on Steam ↗Finally, workshop support is here! Swap out tape covers with your own art!The workshop includes samples of how to make your own. Even if you've never modded before, it's pretty easy to do!Workshop SupportMod packs can include their own cover images. They go on the front of the tape. The spine and back stay the same so you can still sort by the spine. With mods on, the game only rebakes the covers the mods change instead of all of them.Pack changes (a new download or a rescan) wait until you're back at the main menu instead of kicking in during a run.Note: Steam does not support Demos having their own workshop page, but you can still reach the demo mod template pack directly at this link. Mods can still be used on demo, you just need to manually place the mod in the mod folder. Full version mods are NOT compatible with demo mods. (There is a button in-game to open your mod folder on the...
Read full update on Steam ↗Lots of patch notes, so I'll get right to it:TutorialI reworked the opening tutorial after watching a lot of streams. It now walks you through one full loop: sweep tapes into the cart, set its filter, find the matching shelf, pull an armful and shelve it.Buttons you need to hold show a ring filling up on the prompt. Buttons you tap show a quick bounce. If you tap one that should be held, it tells you.Looky shows you that the symbol on the cart's filter matches the sign over its shelf. The last step of the opening teaches the cart controls: hold Tab and pick a genre. If you keep carrying tapes one at a time while the cart has that genre, Looky points you back to the cart once. The "more pages" hint for the terminal now shows up after your first upgrade point, as a flashing MORE PAGES bar you can click. CartIf the cart has no filter, the first tape you put in sets it to that tape's genre.T...

No more back-and-forth pacing.Cart has also been told politely, but firmly, to stop following the player so closely. As a result, the player now gently tosses the tapes into the cart, which is more fun anyway! When you are ready for them, summon the cart by looking at the cart and holding down the control to take tapes from the cart. They will come to you!Fixed issue where shelves would not fully highlight for first volumes.Official discord is in the works! A single tape in a block results in the block being dim, while 6+ is a full brightness block. Tapes up in the loft area are now represented by a hollow block.
