ATTENTION! The current version of the game is a short, atmospheric horror experience lasting 15–45 minutes. I am currently working on a new, expanded version. By purchasing the game now, you support the release of this new version. The release date is October 29, 2026. Additionally, two free expansions will be released, offering a brand-new survival horror experience. Thank you so much for your support; it means a great deal to me as a solo developer.
Remember how it felt when you first got your hands on a parent's videotape — the 4:3 aspect ratio, the static on the screen, and the sense that something truly fascinating lay ahead.
But this is a different story: a twisted experiment sends a hapless soldier into the Backrooms, where he must make his way through several levels, encounter dangerous entities, and try to find a way back.
Explore, hide, and listen to every suspicious sound — especially footsteps... Above all, survive.
KARJALA is an indie horror game set in the world of the Karelian anomaly. The game is based on the short story "Karelian Anomaly" by Denis Gromwell, steeped in the atmosphere of Karelian forests and Soviet aesthetics.
In KARJALA, you'll be immersed in a tense and terrifying atmosphere with a strong focus on exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival. The game will keep you on edge from start to finish as you try to find a way out of this dark and supernatural place.

Hello everyone. I am continuing to work on a new version of the game.Here is what is already complete:1. A save and load system;2. Enemy AI;3. A boss you can fight;4. A boss you have to run away from;5. An inventory system and two primary weapons: a knife and a pistol;6. A new location, featuring an open-air area based on the marble canyon of Ruskeala Mountain Park (a real park in Karelia—I highly recommend visiting; it’s beautiful there);7. New enemies—3 types;8. 3 types of puzzles;And much more :) The current release date for the new version of the game is October 29, 2026.

1. The player can run from the very beginning of the game (except for the corridor sequence after the blue blast door and the "Forest Cabin" location); 2. Flashlight brightness and range doubled (now you won't be wandering blindly in the dark); 3. Removed the looping chase sound for the "Forest Spirit" enemy; 4. If you run into the cave with the car while the "Forest Spirit" is chasing you, the boss will disappear—and will do so every time; 5. Added another checkpoint in the "Mine" location; 6. Two additional checkpoints have been added to the level. 16 pistol rounds can now be found in the mine (accessible by car). Fixed a bug affecting running mechanics in the forest near the mine. Fixed an issue with the appearance of the second forest spirit. Added lighting cues to indicate where the player needs to go within the mines. Added a clarification at the start of the game regarding playtime and the current lack of a save system. FUTURE PLANS: Create a second ending for the game. Create a scene following the final note on the train to better explain the protagonist's fate. Add an extra level for players to explore and complete. Add localization for Spanish and Simplified Chinese. Translate all in-game notes into German and French. Release two free DLCs. Each DLC will feature unique gameplay distinct from the main game, with a playtime of at least 60 minutes each.
