LAST LIGHT — GAME DESCRIPTION / REFERENCE

Last Light is a real-time 2D survival horror and stealth game built around one core idea:

LIGHT KEEPS YOU SAFE, BUT LIGHT ALSO ATTRACTS THEM.

The player explores dark, dangerous environments where visibility is limited and supernatural creatures can appear at any moment. The flashlight helps the player see paths, objects, rooms, and hazards, but using it carelessly can reveal their position.

CORE GAMEPLAY

Explore handcrafted, atmospheric environments.

Use a flashlight to navigate dark areas.

Manage limited flashlight/battery resources.

Watch for enemy movement and detection.

Hide inside suitable hiding spots when enemies approach.

Avoid creatures rather than relying on direct combat.

Complete environmental objectives to progress.

Find keys, tools, switches, and other important objects.

Interact with the environment to open new routes.

Use darkness and the environment to break enemy detection.

Listen for sounds and visual warnings that indicate nearby danger.

Escape dangerous areas after completing objectives.

Face increasingly difficult locations with new threats and hazards.

The core gameplay loop is:

ENTER DANGEROUS AREA → EXPLORE CAREFULLY → USE LIGHT TO SEE → WATCH FOR ENEMIES → HIDE / EVADE WHEN DETECTED → COMPLETE OBJECTIVE → FIND A WAY OUT → EXTRACT → ENTER A MORE DANGEROUS LOCATION

CORE IDENTITY

Last Light should not copy Shadowlight's gameplay systems .

Shadowlight focuses on:

DARKNESS → STEALTH → POSITIONING → BACKSTAB → TURN-BASED COMBAT

Last Light focuses on:

DARKNESS → FLASHLIGHT → RESOURCE MANAGEMENT → DETECTION → HIDING → OBJECTIVE → EXTRACTION

The flashlight is primarily a survival and exploration tool , not a weapon.

The central tension should always be:

“I need the light to see.” “But the light might reveal me.”

Last Light should remain a real-time 2D survival horror / stealth experience with handcrafted levels, environmental storytelling, limited resources, hiding mechanics, supernatural creatures, objectives, and escalating danger.

Shadowlight is only inspiration for the broader idea that light and darkness can create tension . Last Light must maintain its own mechanics, progression, enemies, atmosphere, objectives, and identity.
