About this game

Description

Supplied by the Steam store

A small corner of the archive

This demo opens four of Hearsay's ten cabinets: Marches & Bands , Ragtime & Dance , The Concert Hall and Popular Favorites , where you will know some of the tunes before you have heard a whole one. Fourteen real recordings, every one of them public domain, out of the Library of Congress, cut into sixty-one unlabeled cassettes and left on the shelves and all over the floor.

There is no search. There are no titles. A tape tells you nothing until you play it.

Listen. Decide. Commit.

Put a fragment on the shelf under the sign you think it belongs to, in the position you think it holds, and the slot answers you immediately.

Green means right cabinet, right recording, right place.

Amber means right recording, wrong order.

Red means wrong cabinet entirely.

Get every piece of a recording in the right order and it plays through as one thing for the first time in a century. Each one you restore pays a splice, and the demo gives you enough of them to buy your first few upgrades, the bench included.

What's in the demo

14 recordings, 61 fragments, four cabinets

Your first splices and a handful of upgrades to spend them on

One of the five tapes left behind by whoever worked in this room last

About 30 to 45 minutes of play

Full controller support, and every keyboard control rebindable

The full game

Hearsay has 96 recordings, 415 tapes, ten cabinets, every upgrade and all five of the tapes that were left behind. It comes out November 3.

Demo progress does not carry over to the full game, and achievements are in the full game only.

Please read this before you play

Hearsay is played by ear. The puzzle is not captioned and will not be, because a transcript of a fragment is the answer to it. If you are deaf, this game's puzzle is not playable, and we would rather say so here.
