W DoBark is played on a wooden toy board full of 3D toy puppies. Swap two neighbours to line up three or more of the same breed. The board is an instrument: every pop plays a note in time with the music, cascades climb the chord, and the breeds you matched sing along in their own voices: a corgi's yip, a beagle's aroo, a husky's awoo. Swap on the beat and the match scores 50% more.
Travel a 3D world map of seven islands: the morning Clover Meadow, the Blossom Gardens at golden hour, Sunset Shores, the lamp-lit Starlight Park, the Autumn Orchard, the Rainy Harbor and the Snowy Pines. Each land has its own light and weather, its own scenery and board shapes, and its own sounds. When the map opens, the shores of every land you have reached light up in their colours. After each win, your companion pup walks the path to the next park, and a new land welcomes you with a shore of gold.
Somewhere on every board hides a little garden gate, with a golden key floating above it. Clear the pups beneath the key to drop it into the lock and you fly through the gate into the Hidden Hollow: a treasure burrow with five rare dogs (a golden retriever, a samoyed, a dachshund, a French bulldog and a border collie) and free moves. Every point you make there counts for your park, and winning the park afterwards pays five times the coins. Be quick: in most parks the key shines for only a few moves.
Seven islands, one per zone, in a shallow turquoise sea, joined by plank bridges. The parks are stepping stones along a winding path: cream with their stars once played, the next ones in their zone's colour, locked ones grey with a lock. Every island carries its zone's own scenery: trees and clover in the Meadow, cherry trees and lanterns in the Gardens, palms and beach umbrellas on the Shores, blue night trees with glowing mushrooms and lamps in Starlight Park, pumpkins and hay bales in the Orchard, a lighthouse with boats bobbing round the Harbor, snowy pines and snow pups in the Pines. Ducks paddle, rocks stand in the water, and clouds drift past with their shadows sliding over the sea.
Glowing shores. Each island's boundary is a line of light in its zone's colour. When the map opens, light runs round the shore of every island you have reached, from the front to the back on both sides with sparks flying off its head, rippling out from the island you are on. That island keeps breathing softly, with a comet of light circling its shore. Islands still ahead wait unlit and grey, their sign saying which park opens them.
Your companion walks the path. Back on the map after winning a park, your companion dog trots along the path (over the bridge, if it leads to the next island) to the next park, and the camera follows. The new park's stone lights up when it arrives. Reaching a new island runs its shore with gold and shows a "NEW LAND!" banner.
Each island's own weather: pollen in the Meadow, petals in the Gardens, fireflies in Starlight Park, falling leaves, drizzle and snow. The ambient sound follows the island you are looking at.
Signs and a journey strip. Each island's name and stars hang on a sign post on its front shore. On the right, a strip with one bar per island shows what is on screen and where your companion is; click a bar to fly there.
Getting around: drag the map, turn the mouse wheel or press Up / Down to glide along; Left / Right jump from island to island. "Play park N" (or Enter) starts the next park wherever you are, and "Find my pup" brings the view back to your companion.
