"Jyoka" is a castle town building strategy game set in 16th-century Sengoku-era Japan.
Choose a territory from across Japan to serve as the heart of your castle town, employ capable vassals, gather domain resources, and construct various buildings and fields.
By granting land (rice paddies) to your vassals, you impose duties of labor and military service, forging a master-servant bond.
Your town begins under attack by wildlife and bandits, requiring you to defend it against invasions by neighboring lords and regional daimyo using fences, moats, stone walls, turrets, and keep structures.
Once your domain stabilizes, turn the tide and launch siege battles against enemy castles.
Capture all 70+ enemy castles modeled after real historical fortresses to achieve the unification of Japan.
■ Three Major Phases
* Castle Town Building Phase
* Castle Defense Phase
* Enemy Castle Siege Phase
This game is a city-building strategy game that seamlessly integrates these three phases.
You can finely adjust the game difficulty; lower the enemy aggressiveness to focus on town building, or increase it to face frequent raids and invasions.
Once your domain is stabilized, you can invade neighboring provinces and rule other lands by capturing enemy castles.
■ Castle Town Building Phase (Reconstruction from Ruins)
You play as the ruler of a minor local power known as Kunishū, leading a regional force.
In 16th-century Japan—the Sengoku period—wildlife inhabited the surrounding forests, while superior rival lords, regional daimyo, and renowned powerful daimyo surrounded your domain, making it an era where maintaining independence was exceedingly difficult for minor forces.
In this era, rice served as both food and the stipend paid to samurai vassals.
Lords developed new lands to expand rice paddies, granted portions to vassals, and levied labor and military obligations scaled to land size, pursuing policies of national prosperity and military strength to develop their castle towns.
In the first tier, you begin by gathering resources in a ruined wasteland devastated by bandit attacks, aiming to construct your first rice paddies.
■ Features in Town Building Mode (Unlocked as Tiers Increase)
* Construction
Construct designated buildings when requirements such as resources, construction costs, unlocked technologies, and event conditions are met.
(Example: Building a Woodcutter's Hut causes workers to travel to the nearest forest, chop timber, transport it to the storage yard, and return to the hut. Keeping forests, huts, and storage yards close together optimizes efficiency.)
* Trade
Construct commercial facilities like Traveling Markets to buy and sell goods. In the early game, most items except rice can only be bought; however, completing conditions or obtaining local specialties allows you to sell them.
* Decrees (Laws)
Adjust six tax rates. Raising tax rates increases public discontent, while lowering them increases satisfaction.
High satisfaction attracts immigrants from neighboring regions.
You can also adjust the mobilization rate for forced labor.
* Recruitment
Expand your vassal pool by promoting a private soldier to Infantry Leader, or by recruiting samurai seeking employment as Infantry Leaders.
Prospective vassals demand different stipends based on their abilities.
* Vassals
Manage vassal promotions, pay raises, demotions, and dismissals.
(Family members such as sons can receive pay adjustments or be sent to a monastery.)
When an Infantry Leader reaches a stipend of 3,000 or more in rice paddies, they can be promoted to Samurai General.
Assigning vassals to facilities activates unique skills, greatly boosting facility performance.
Additionally, in siege defense or enemy siege battles, the number of troops a vassal commands scales with their granted land size.
* Military
Issue orders to vassals at deployable facilities, including domain deployment, training, and equipment changes.
(Equipment: Sword, Spear, Long Pike, Bow, Cavalry, Matchlock)
* Technology
Unlock various technologies from the tech tree.
Unlocking technologies requires tech points, which are generated by constructing Tech Labs and assigning vassals to them.
* Diplomacy
Once you control one of the 73 provinces, diplomacy with neighboring domains becomes available.
To conduct diplomacy, place a vassal as a diplomat in a Palace (Hall) or Palace (Great Hall) and set a budget for automatic goodwill diplomacy.
Setting the budget to 0 halts goodwill diplomatic efforts.
* Battle
When not subservient to another force, you can invade other forces or neighboring provinces.
Select a target province, assign a commander-in-chief, select participating vassals, and set military rations and equipment to initiate a siege battle.
If the protagonist serves as commander-in-chief, you will manually command the siege. If assigned to a family member, it becomes an automated battle resolved later. Normally hidden, the victory probability is displayed if a strategist is assigned to a Palace (Study).
* Resources+
View additional resource counts not constantly shown on the main HUD panel.
* Trends
Check demographic and data trends over time, such as population changes.
* Settings
Adjust difficulty, castle name, and player name.
Lowering difficulty after starting a game affects achievements such as trophies.
* HELP
View control guides and detailed descriptions of officer skills.
* Save Methods
For overwrite saves, toggle "Save Next Month" in the top right; when the button turns blue, the game saves automatically at the start of the next month.
For new save files, open the options menu via the gear icon in the top right and select "Save New File" at the bottom left to save to a new file at the start of the next month.
