About this game

Description

Supplied by the Steam store

There's a queue outside WSTOŁEM. You're behind the counter. Everyone wants groceries, but the shelves have vinegar and mustard. Things look a little different in the back room. No need to tell everyone.

1980: Under the Counter brings a separate, 30-day campaign to Which Sausage, Mate? Work through August in communist Poland, feed your family and serve people you'd rather not turn down.

STOCK THE SHELVES.

Work the register, weigh products, check IDs and ration cards. Having money isn't enough. Customers need the right allocation too. Or they have it, but you've run out of stock. The next person in line will gladly explain how long they've been waiting.

Workers, party officials, militiamen, currency dealers and familiar faces from Polish cinema. Everyone has business with you. And the till still has to balance.

KEEP SOMETHING IN THE BACK.

You decide whether to refill the shelves. Leave them empty and customers start asking if you might have something out back. Selling under the counter earns money, but every customer served this way raises suspicion.

Accept deliveries and expand your storage. The same supplies must cover the shop, your family and favours. An empty shelf can be part of the plan. An empty pantry at home, less so.

ADD SOME SYRUP.

Take a glass, fill it to the right level, add the requested syrup and serve. Hold the tap too long? Now there's a puddle to wipe up.

Upgrade your register, scales and soda fountain, choosing equipment variants. Working equipment beats another poster about workplace efficiency.

CALL IN A FAVOUR.

Rent and heating cost money. Food comes from your stockroom. Set aside some supplies for gifts, too. A box of chocolates or a bottle of vodka can open doors that money leaves firmly shut.

A contact at the provincial party committee can remove an entry from the Book of Complaints and Grievances . For supplies, of course. The first favour costs less. Then your contact remembers how busy he is.

SURVIVE AUGUST.

Help the strikers, build party connections, make deals or save up to leave. Hear Bohdan out, too. His brother-in-law is throwing a housewarming party. An empty table simply won't do.

Your decisions lead to 9 story endings . Become a hero, make a fortune on the side or simply make it home. That last one is worth celebrating too.

WHAT'S IN THE DLC

A separate 30-day campaign set in August 1980, with 9 story endings .

Under-the-counter sales : control stock availability and the suspicion your deals attract.

Back-room deliveries and storage upgrades , with supplies shared between your shop and family.

Ration cards, period documents and product weighing at the counter.

An upgradeable soda fountain with flavoured syrups .

A dedicated product catalogue, cast of customers and events set in communist Poland.

The Book of Complaints and Grievances , plus connections who can make troublesome entries disappear.

Shop equipment, banknotes, coins and pixel-art interiors made for 1980. A local tabby has moved into the back room, too.
