This game is a short fable set in a paper-crafted utopia of the near future.
This is a demo version. Aside from the core story and script, the vast majority of the game’s assets, scenes, and code were created with AI assistance.
This is my first independent game project, made purely out of a desire to tell a fun little story. The work still has many imperfections and rough edges.
The demo runs for roughly 10 minutes, featuring several animated sequences and simple interactive scenes.
Below is the full detailed introduction to this demo.
This is a perfect, uncanny world built entirely of paper. The lush green slopes are die-cut cardstock, the rainbow arching across the sky is layered colored paper, and even the pedestrians along the roads share identical silhouettes and stylized smiles. Everyone lives, walks, and attends school in rigid, unchanging routines. No one questions the borders of the world, nor wonders what lies beyond the rainbow — truths deliberately folded out of sight.
You will play as Lucas, a fair-haired boy who begins to notice the cracks in this world amid the monotony of daily school life. As light seeps through the gaps between paper pages and the orderly structure begins to warp, will you find the courage to tear apart this exquisite facade with your own hands?
And this is only the first layer to uncover.
This is not a story that reveals itself at a glance.
From tiny anomalies within the school grounds, to cracks in the rules at the city’s edge, to the ultimate secrets of the world’s very origin — the entire narrative unfolds like a thick stack of cardstock. You must turn each page with your own hands to glimpse the outline of the layer beneath. Every paper crease, every shattered fragment of memory, every out-of-place line you encounter along the way is a foreshadowing buried ahead.
What you take for the truth is often nothing more than the thinnest top layer of disguise. When you follow the threads to their end, you will discover that this very journey of awakening and rebellion may itself be the most meticulously folded piece of the entire conspiracy
You will encounter Lilith — a purple-haired girl who has also sensed the anomalies of this world.
You can switch between the two protagonists' perspectives as you explore, solve puzzles, and piece together scattered memory fragments across different regions crafted from cardstock. Every choice you make will fold into divergent world branches, and shape the ultimate destiny of this paper-crafted city.
2034 employs a full 2.5D diorama-style papercraft art style, with every scene built from cardstock and folded paper that carries a distinct handcrafted texture.
Admittedly, the game’s overall gameplay and visuals are rather simple and unpolished. Even so, we hope this one-of-a-kind art style will deepen your sense of immersion in the world.
