Can you find the one kanji that goes in the middle?

"Wadoukaichin" is a traditional kanji puzzle named after the first coin to circulate widely in Japan.

Place a single kanji in the center square so that it forms four two-character compound words with the kanji above, below, left, and right of it, all at the same time.

Think of even one of the four words and you have a shot at the answer. The moment it clicks feels great.

This game is in Japanese only. You will need to be able to read Japanese kanji to play.

Start with the Missions

From easy puzzles at an early elementary school level up to rare kanji from the top Kanji Kentei grades.

100 missions with 1,000 puzzles, arranged in order of difficulty, raise your level step by step.

Three modes to test your skills

Time Attack — Start with 100 seconds. Each correct answer adds 3 seconds, each mistake takes 3 away. Compete on the Steam leaderboards by number of correct answers and accuracy.

Daily Challenge — The same 10 puzzles for everyone, changing every day. One attempt per day.

Online Battle — Up to 16 players. Share a room code and play with friends right away.

Three rule sets for Online Battle

Time Attack Battle — A shared 100-second clock. Every time someone answers correctly, everyone gets 3 more seconds. The longer you hold on, the longer you play.

10-Question Sprint — 10 puzzles. As soon as someone answers correctly, that puzzle ends and the next one begins. Pure speed.

10-Question Race — 10 puzzles. A correct answer does not end the puzzle. Players who solve it early get a stamp, and the puzzle continues until everyone has answered. For those who would rather be sure than fast.

When creating a room you can also turn off the wrong-answer penalty (answer as many times as you like) and turn hints on or off.

During a match, send your feelings with five cat stamps (emotes).

Stuck? The meaning becomes your hint

If a puzzle stays unsolved for a while, the meaning of one of the answer words is quietly shown.

It is the meaning, not the reading, so it never gives the answer away, yet it is enough to make you go "oh, that word!" Just the right amount of help.

Hints work in solo play and online, and can be turned off per room online.

The more you play, the stronger your kanji

Over 6,000 compound words included.

When a puzzle is settled, the readings and meanings of all four words are shown, so words you did not know stick right away.

Every word you encounter is recorded in the Word Collection. Aim for a complete set.

Keep answering correctly and the creatures in your aquarium grow.

Before you start an Online Battle

Online Battle connects players directly to each other (P2P). The first time you launch the game, Windows may ask whether to allow this app to communicate through the firewall.

Please choose "Allow access". If it stays blocked, you will not be able to connect to other players and will keep waiting in the lobby.

To allow it later, open Windows Settings → Network & Internet → Windows Firewall → Allow an app through firewall, and check this game.
