Trap your friends with explosive droppings, send their bombs back and burrow out before the payback. Hamsuri: Bomb Festival is an arena party brawler for 1–4 players, locally or online , with CPU opponents for solo play or filling empty seats. One arena, four rivals: who will demand a rematch?
A well-placed bomb opens a path. A chain reaction can close every escape route. Smash crates, grab power-ups and keep an exit in mind: your next trap might catch you instead.
Stash a bomb in your cheeks, carry it across the arena and spit it out to surprise a rival. Burrow out of trouble, kick danger down a lane and make the most of the power-ups you collect. Four characters. Plenty of ways to ruin someone else’s plan.
From Sakura’s cherry blossoms to Taiko’s drums, each stage calls for new tricks. Shifting tides, slippery ice, lightning and disguises: learn to use the surprises across 13 arenas, including one secret arena to unlock .
Osaka Dotonbori turns food counters into moving bomb lanes. Read the conveyors, then use CHEF TONGS with a direction + SPECIAL to move the adjacent bomb one tile to your right without stopping its fuse. Time your move and keep an escape route.
At Mount Fuji , lava channels and eruption warnings change the safe paths. Collect the COOLING FAN and use a direction + SPECIAL to cool up to three forward tiles for six seconds. Everyone can use that temporary crossing — including your rivals. Watch for the lava to return.
Hold CHEEK OUT to charge your spit, then release. Interior blocks make your bomb hop onward; hitting another bomb adds fire range while keeping the receiving bomb’s countdown. The last spitter earns its explosion points. A reinforced bomb grows 25% once and cannot go back into cheeks. Shots into rivals knock them down briefly; shots outside the arena or into closed zones are refused.
Score Attack: rack up points, respawn and chase a comeback.
Battle Royale: read the warnings before danger strikes.
Last Hamster: be the last hamster standing.
Festival Championship: battle across arenas for the overall crown, with comeback advantages to keep the rivalry alive.
Choose your rules, mix friends with CPU opponents, adjust their difficulty and customize your keyboard or controller bindings.
“Back in the mid-2000s, I was coding the first version of this game for the GP32 handheld. Now that I’m a dad, I wanted to bring it back so I could play it with my daughter — and share those matches with you.”
— Hamsuri’s creator, isotis
This new version moves from SDL to Unity. AI tools helped modernize the code and create visual and audio assets. The game does not use generative AI during play.

The festival keeps going after your last life 🐹 This update clarifies round endings, makes shields easier to read and fixes several interface issues. Shared changes reach both the full game and the playable parts of the demo. Score Attack: the others can still earn points Every defeat costs one life, in every mode. In Score Attack, losing your last life does not end the round while another player or CPU still has lives: remaining participants keep playing until the clock runs out. If everyone runs out of lives, the clock drops to zero and the round ends early. In local matches, the new sign explains it: no hamsters left standing… everyone is taking a nap! The highest score still determines the result, including possible ties. A score lead does not trigger arena closure; removing the final crate retains its closure mechanic. A shield with a clear countdown Protection lasts up to 30 se...
Read full update on Steam ↗Tanuki can be kawaii too! This update clears more space around the arena HUD and brings the new Tanuki to Tanuki Yashiro in the full game. A new Tanuki, only in Tanuki Yashiro An upright model with a chibi silhouette, rounded hands and the same neutral outfit for every player. Its size is increased to match the hamsters’ visible height. The head, paws and tail now follow movement animations. Character actions use the Tanuki animation set. A maximum of three new Tanuki Time bonuses can appear per round, shared by all players. Bonuses dropped after a defeat can still be picked up. More room to see the arena Burrow and Cheeks sit beside the character card. Power-ups use rows of up to three icons. Each row takes only the space it needs. Speed fix Changing fast-forward during the Tanuki Time announcement could restore ×5 speed while its indicator was off. The game now keeps the requested s...
Read full update on Steam ↗More reliable movement Classic mode: you can turn towards a bomb to pocket it even when it blocks the adjacent tile. A move already committed to an open tile still finishes at its centre. Modern mode: pushing the stick diagonally against a wall no longer slows movement along that wall. Speed still follows the stick’s analog input. CPUs need to find their Tanuki too In the full game, each CPU now takes a random 1–2.5 seconds to find its bearings at the start of Tanuki Time after the position shuffle. It hesitates, takes small steps and pauses before resuming its usual behaviour. It can still try to escape immediate danger. The new biped Tanuki model remains in development. Crates, flames and smoke A crate stops the blast that destroys it. Its tile remains dangerous while the flames are visible, for about 0.39 seconds. Once only smoke remains, entering that tile is safe from that explos...
