Something has gone awry in the Wizard’s tower! As one of the assistants, explore a strange and increasingly chaotic world of magical experiments, scattered clues, and fellow assistants in need of help. Follow your curiosity, collect quarks, and earn new magical augments as you unravel what happened and find out how to escape.
The Wizard's experiments have left the tower in a state of magical disarray. Assistants are scattered throughout, continuously performing the last task they were assigned. You play an assistant whose eyes are on the moon and making your way through it all: lending a hand where you can, examining the Wizard's questionable notes, unraveling your past, and following a trail of quarks that charge Nexus points along the way. Above it all is the moon.
Explore places within the tower ranging from the tower’s pipes to the Wizard's workshop, reaching as high up as the rafters. Run, climb, jump, and glide, all at your own pace. Talk with the assistants you encounter, and investigate the oddities the Wizard has left behind. Collect quarks to charge Nexus points to unlock magical augments that you can use to bounce, traverse ledges, teleport, ride beams of light, and puzzle your way through the tower, revealing paths that were previously out of reach. Along the way, examine notes, scrolls, and glyphs that gradually unveil the workings of the Wizard and the assistants who need your help to escape along with you.
Wander through stone walls, pipes, workshops from the past and present, collections of spellbooks, rafters, and other shadowy corners of the Wizard's tower as it gets stranger the higher you go. Look closely for notes, glyphs, and scrolls, as curiosity is rewarded by revealing more about what has been happening inside the tower.
The tower is full of magic that is rather unstable. Gather quarks and activate each Nexus to unlock new spells, then put them to use as you explore. Bounce to new heights, throw ledges into place, create portals, arrange potion bottles to make books levitate, activate mirrors to create beams of light you can ride, and burn your way into hidden places. Just when you think you're through, you can revisit any place you've been by using the Nexus as a Fast Travel point.
Guess what? You're not the only assistant caught up in the Wizard's magical mess! But hey, you're doing something about it. Find assistants throughout the tower, uncover what has happened, and help them get out of questionable experiments, mysterious mechanisms, and the tediousness of assistant duties.
Although the Wizard may have made a poor choice or two (or three) that led to chaos, exploration within the tower is always safe. No lives. No game overs. No losing progress because an experiment went wonky. The Wizard’s Assistants is built around exploration without failure. Whatever you do, give it a try, miss a jump but never fear, and push at the edges of the tower with the safety of magical barriers. Just keep going! Curiosity moves the adventure forward where your effort is what's celebrated.
Every place you visit invites another question, every assistant has another situation to resolve, and every augment leads to new experiments. Keep exploring, keep helping, and keep following the quarks upward to find out for yourself if the moon really is made of cheese.
The Wizard's Assistants was made possible by 90 Days of Joy, a 90-day game development challenge about making what you want to make. Follow along as we share experiments, ideas, discoveries, mistakes, and what reminds us of why we love making games.
