Command alone or Bring friends. One or Two capital ships, side by side, back to back, holding the Belt of Ashes against everything the Hollow can throw. Play a single run or a whole campaign together over Steam, pick your own flagships, builds and doctrines, and cover each other when the swarm comes in. More friends? They can climb aboard and crew your guns and stations.
You do not fight alone. Recruit escorts, give them orders and promote the ones who live. Two Veterans whose hulls fit a recipe can fuse into a new class of ship. Three can drill as a squad. An escort that goes down ejects its pilot in a pod you can still pull aboard; a pilot nobody reaches goes on the memorial wall with their rank, callsign and kills.
The Hollow come in swarms, then in capital ships, and then the Goblites and Alves join the fight and other factions awake. Every charged beam, arcing pulse and incoming torpedo is marked on screen and in your ears before it lands, so the hit you take is one you saw coming.
Everything you destroy drops salvage, and every level bolts something new visually onto your hull: a flak battery, a rail cannon, tesla coils, a drone hangar, a shield dome. Each one is a real turret on a real hardpoint. You watch it traverse and fire, and by minute ten your ship is a bristling wall of the build you chose. When the tide and fight turns against you, launch your flagship's unique Ultimate weapon.
Between the bosses, the fight keeps throwing new problems at you. A Concord capital drops out of the jump under fire and needs covering until her drive spools. A prison hulk runs for the edge with captured crews in its hold. An artillery spire unfolds and starts shelling your wing, Hollow included. Two claimers race you to a supply canister, a hunter pack jumps in behind the fleet looking for your best pilot, and some runs a harnessed leviathan with a Concord bridge bolted to its back swims in to fight beside you. There are more than twenty kinds of field event, and each one pays for going and costs you for ignoring it. And when holding a position isn't enough, Titan Escort puts a slow, enormous Concord Titan in your care, gate to gate, with a Hollow mothership hunting her.
Online co-op over Steam: two flagships side by side in runs and the full campaign, each player with their own ship, build, doctrine and fleet, and friends can crew your ship's stations in Bridge Crew. Drop out mid-fight and rejoin the same run.
12 flagships, each with its own Ultimate: six to start with, a command station, four yard hulls and one you have to find. Each has its own hardpoint layout and a tree of signature refits (84 in all).
35 modules, 44 evolutions and 18 mega evolutions.
11 escort classes, 12 fusions that merge two escorts into one hull, and 6 squad formations.
A Bridge Crew of 13 officers. Each takes over a station of the ship (the guns, the reactor, the helm, damage control, flight orders) and builds friendships and rivalries with the rest of the crew over a campaign.
Four sides to fight. More than 20 Hollow ship types, from mite swarms to an enemy built of parts that break away and fight on alone. The Custodians, nine ships of an older navy, side with whoever is losing at higher heat. Goblite warbands break out of the asteroids in ten kinds of rock-hulled ship, from skiffs to a gun hall carved out of a whole rock.
Allies, some runs. An Alve flight may pass through and fight beside you, or come in hunting a Goblite warband. Ten Alve ships in all, and you can switch them to rivals and fight them instead.
Eight sectors. Each of the five on the main line has a hazard that needs its own answer: you hide from solar flares behind rock, throttle down for shard storms, and block the Hollow pulse with a shield surge. Three fronts open from them, each held by a different side.
Bosses roll from their own pools: the Reaver, the Maw, the Choir, the Hollow Crown, the Custodian Arbiter, the Goblite Warboss and the Oathbreaker. Higher heat hides secret bosses on a much bigger scale, among them the Kraken and the Hollow Queen.
Arcade, or Tactical: slower, heavier fights where you pause to give orders, set formations and pick which part of an enemy to break.
A three-act campaign on a branching map, with eight keepers running the shops between fights.
Titan Escort, with a Long Haul option across three sectors.
A service record that carries between runs: 40 Command ranks, mastery for each flagship, 9 doctrines, 25 drydock upgrades, 8 contracts that raise the stakes for more pay, and weekly commissions.
Endless, Daily, Boss Rush and Challenge modes, and a heat ladder.
Pilot radio voiced by seven actors, a score that moves with the fight, and a ship computer that calls incoming missiles.
Chase or bridge camera, photo mode, controller support with Steam Deck prompts and a Deck preset, and 40+ achievements.
Accessibility: colourblind palettes (protanopia, deuteranopia, tritanopia, high contrast), UI, text and HUD scale, reduced motion, reduced flashes, hold or toggle for boost and the orders wheel, remappable keys, aim assist, adjustable damage taken, and radio chatter shown on screen.
Optimized for Launch, this is nearly as optimized as I can get the game's performance. Everything since 2.3.2 in one update: the game starts sooner, stops freezing on shaders and holds its frame rate, plays properly on the Steam Deck and a controller, and Titan Escort runs smoothly. It also brings your awaited forum requests: a Long Haul Titan Escort, a co-op campaign lobby, escort fire control, choosing how many mounts a refit takes, and a Hall of Fame for Forum Contributors in the credits (Thanks to everyone who contributed to making Engagement better, earn a spot or higher rank in the HOF by contributing more feedback to the forums!).FASTER START- The first launch no longer waits up to a minute and a half for the ship shader. The menu opens within seconds on a simpler version while the full one finishes in the background.- The sky shader prepares in the background too, so the loadi...
Read full update on Steam ↗A NEW LOOK. The biggest graphics update yet, much faster performance on Windows, new ships for the Alves, Goblites and Custodians, and a harder climb for everyone who told us the runs were too easy. Experimental WebGPU option for even more visuals (Heavy emphasis on experimental).LIGHTING AND THE LOOK OF THE SHIPS- Hard sunlight is the new default: one strong sun and deep shadows, so every hull reads with real shape. The old soft light is still in Options, Graphics.- New lighting on every hull: sky light that follows the sector, the sun as a disc instead of a point, contact shadows where parts meet the plating, light from lit windows and drive plumes washing the hull, and brighter bare steel.- Capitals carry decals and worn plating from a new material library: hull numbers, hazard stripes and panel wear sized to read at chase distance.- Ambient occlusion and reflections are better on...
Read full update on Steam ↗GRAPHICS- A ship coming close for the first time no longer stalls the frame while its detailed model is built: until then it shows its plainer distant model, and the detailed one is built the next time the game stands still (a refit card, the pause menu). Every ship's distant model is ready a few seconds after the game starts.- Hull metal is lit properly now. Reflections of the sky blur smoothly with how rough a surface is instead of smearing, bright reflections are no longer clipped flat, and every sector's sky lights a hull to the same strength, so ships read the same in the dim Crown and the bright Veil.- Hulls carry fine real-metal detail under their panels: scratches, specks and wear on the paint, brushed grain on bare metal (High and Ultra).- Hull paint has more life: neighbouring plates differ in tone and sheen, plate edges are chipped back to bare metal, the clear coat puts a...
Read full update on Steam ↗THE FACTIONS- Three new fronts, each opened beside the sector it borders. The Grindings: the Goblites are the swarm, their warbands breaking out of the rocks, with the Junkmother and the Warboss as bosses. Silver Reach: the Alves are the swarm, dropping in astern, with the Vesper and the Oathbreaker. The Registry: the Custodians hold nothing back from the first minute, and the Arbiter waits at the end.- Thirteen new ships. Goblites: the Lobber mortar barge, the Grapnel that harpoons your hull, the Tinker repair tug, the Junkmother hangar rock and the Gunhall, whose war drum makes every Goblite near it hit harder. Alves: the Heron lance, the Loom that shields the flight (kill it first), the Wren torpedo ring, the Halo ward ship, the Vesper carrier and the Lodestar, a great ring with a star on its mast. The Hollow Drover drives the swarm faster, and the Custodian Magistrate sentences yo...
Read full update on Steam ↗Demo Patch 1.6 "Play Engagement with Friends"I could not have asked for a better community, and for that I want to present to you the biggest patch since 1.1, 1.6 Play Engagement with Friends, and the latest build ready for the Steam Next Fest. Local co-op, Six new modules with their evolutions and mega evolutions, eighteen new features you can switch on and off one by one, an interface rebuilt for the Steam Deck and controllers, Daily leaderboards, and a long list of fixes from the forums!!! NEW FEATURES Each new feature has its own switch in Options, Gameplay, Features. All but two are on by default; the relay station and tactical command start switched off. A switch takes effect at your next launch. Some of these are highly experimental, although I did do my best to try to playtest them all a bit. Please expect a 1.6.1 patch tonight or tomorow targeted at fixing anything I missed a...
Read full update on Steam ↗Thank you to everyone who played the demo and posted in the discussions. I read every thread and will continue to take your suggestions to build Engagement into the game you most enjoy! This update is the biggest the demo has had: it rolls up several weeks of updates since the last demo build, a patch built straight from your forum feedback, quality of life fixes, bug fixes and new ways to build your ship. Here is what changed.Suggestions from the Steam ForumsFree-look. Hold a button to look around your flagship without turning it. A key that targets the nearest boss, and an arrow on the edge of the screen pointing at any boss you cannot see. The battle area is clear. You can see the edge as you approach it, an arrow points you back to the fight, and leaving gives a fair countdown instead of a surprise death. The old "lane" wording is gone. Every controller action can be remapped, sti...
