Journey through dark interpretations of mythology from:
Celtic - Norse - West African - Japanese - Chinese - Greek & Roman -Ancient Egyptian
Beneath Cairntír, the gods and monsters of six ancient cultures never truly disappeared. But these are not the myths as they were politely written down. Cairntír takes creatures, gods, curses, and legends drawn from real mythology and pushes them back toward horror, toward the fear of what it might actually have meant to meet one of these things alone. From the halls of a cursed Greek house, where the dead have risen to occupy rooms their bloodline abandoned generations ago. A sorceress waits on a lonely island, welcoming strangers into a home where hospitality has become something unnatural. Harpies circle storm-battered cliffs, no longer distant figures from an old story but starving, shrieking things that dive from the clouds. And deep in the underworld, a god who has already learned the cost of mercy once refuses, with total and unhurried calm, to learn it again. Enough of the old stories have become darker in the telling that you should know, before you descend, that recognizing a myth does not mean you know what is waiting for you.
Choose your culture and make the descent yourself through 70 hand-built dungeons, where the magic you wield is rooted in real mythology but the world surrounding it has been reimagined through dark fantasy and horror. Ancestor-blood passes through Deveran bloodlines. Runes are carved and sung by Drakvarr shamans. The Gaeldrim walk old druidic paths. Vandiri griots carry rite-songs older than memory. Yorenshi onmyōji bind and shapeshift kami. Hellenians call on the old gods and monsters of Greece and Rome, hunting the undead, and taking the shape of the beasts those gods once cursed mortals to become. The Akheti wear the masks of Egypt’s animal gods, raise sacred wards against every harm, and weigh their foes’ hearts on the scales of the dead. Each tradition draws from a different mythology, and each encounters its own gods, spirits, monsters, and nightmares.
Cairntír does not simply retell old myths. It asks what those myths would feel like if you had to survive them.
Every road leads somewhere different, and no two travelers who make the descent ever come back with quite the same story.

Read full update on Steam ↗The Bard Overhaul Bards are now a true specialist class, with powers no other combat style can match. Songs belong to Bards alone, every Bard carries their culture's musical tradition into battle, and each one now has a song attack of their own. Just as only Two-Handed fighters can wield two-handed weapons, only Bards can play songs, so no one else in Cairntír can do what they do. That covers all five song lines: the Line of Siuloir, Rune-Song of the Skald, Rite of the Griot, Song of the Muses, and Way of Suijin. Bards can still learn any other magic alongside their songs. Bard Traditions Every Bard now draws on the musical tradition of their own culture, which makes one kind of song much stronger than how any other Bard can play the same song. Deveran: +20% damage for your whole party while one of your war songs is playing. Drakvarr: +50% bonus Hit Points from your Hit Point songs. V...

Read full update on Steam ↗Combat Fire, Ice, Lightning, and Poison effects now apply across the board-roughly 150 melee enemies across dozens of dungeons, all five Monster Hunt regions, and the Arena now carry one of these on their attacks. They also apply to players and followers. Followers now draw from their entire spell list instead of defaulting to the same one every time. Party wards no longer stack redundantly-once one ally has a ward up, others won't waste their turn duplicating it. Combat pacing rebalanced for longer, more survivable fights-enemy HP and damage tuned, and the level-scaling ceiling raised so tougher characters keep facing a real challenge instead of plateauing early. Grand Arena New Crowd Favor system-a visible, swinging meter that rewards big hits, surviving danger, and strong sessions, and grants a real combat bonus the higher it climbs. Monster Hunt You can now customize which monster...

Read full update on Steam ↗Patch Notes 0.2 — Random Dungeon Events Dungeons now have a chance to throw something at you between fights: traps and lucky finds hidden along the path. New: Random events can now trigger while exploring: pressure plates, falling rock, magic-draining runes, healing springs, mana wells, and bursts of battle-readiness before your next fight. Events are rare enough to stay a surprise, not a slog, expect roughly 1-2 per full dungeon run. You're always safe from these while facing an enemy, making a critical decision, or nearing the end of a dungeon, they only show up while you're simply making your way through.
