Blow the Levee

In the Ossaw River basin, everyone has always known what the floodway is for: eighty-four thousand acres—Cordell included—were marked on a 1937 map as the ground that gets sacrificed so a city downstream never has to drown. Now the water is coming up fast, the fuse plug is in play, and Zeke Prather —the District’s floodfight superintendent and a son of Cordell—is the man sent to knock on doors and say the worst true thing: it’s time. Over eleven tense days of sandbags, boil patrols, and impossible logistics, Zeke is pulled between duty and desire as three very different women demand an answer he’s spent his life avoiding: what is he actually for —the river plan, the town that raised him, or the love that refuses to stay safely behind the levee?

Meet the Cast

Opal Teague — “The Phone Tree”

Opal is the widow of Waylon Teague, the superintendent who trained Zeke and anchored Cordell for decades, and now the town has decided she’s the one who will speak for it. She’s ordinary, exhausted, and painfully precise—holding a community together with a legal pad, a phone tree, and casseroles while knowing she’s losing. With Zeke, she becomes the one person who can say exactly what something costs—and refuse what she wants anyway.

Billie Crowder — “The Trailer”

Billie is Zeke’s wife—separated, not divorced—and the best large-animal veterinarian in three counties, the kind of woman who can load panic and muscle into a trailer in the dark and make it look easy. Thrown back into Zeke’s orbit by the floodway livestock evacuation, she’s all momentum, competence, and bruising humor—until the rising water forces them to face whether she left a marriage… or just a house.

Zora Halcomb — “The Strip”

Zora is a contract utility helicopter pilot on a thirty-day flood hire: fearless, forward, and free in a way nobody else in the basin can afford to be. She’s lived in eleven states, never stayed past five months, and carries her whole life in a duffel and a road atlas. With Zeke, the chemistry is immediate—but the real tension is whether something can matter when it comes with an expiration date.

Key Features

A grounded disaster-romance premise: the antagonist isn’t a villain—it’s a river, an operation plan, and time running out.

Three distinct romance routes with one pivotal choice: reunite with your estranged wife, cross an aching line with a widow holding her town together, or fall into something bright and finite with an outsider who never stays.

High-stakes procedural storytelling: pumps, boil patrols, levee miles, notices served door-to-door—competence under pressure as mood, not spectacle.

Themes with teeth, told through objects and action: sacrifice zones, the human face of institutional decisions, and who can afford to leave—shown through trailers, boxes, motel keys, and duffel bags.

Three different climaxes, three different outcomes: the river fails where nobody modeled, is deliberately let in on schedule, or simply… stops short—no speeches, no easy catharsis.

Each of the three romance routes includes explicit adult scenes.
