Last Civilization: Inherited Flame is a settlement survival simulation about building a village around the last flame and passing its records and memories to the next civilization. Daytime preparations shape your survival at night. What you preserve from failure can help the next village endure.
A night spent protecting the flame. Work paused to care for a friend. The day someone first found your village. In Last Civilization: Inherited Flame, we are bringing the joy of building a settlement together with stories that make its people worth remembering.
Latest development-build progress (October 20, 2026)
First encounters and everyday work in A Life in One Book. We have improved record retention so a resident's first encounter and recent everyday work remain as their book fills up. Look back at who helped keep the village going.
Work that protects the night, and decisions that allow rest. We are improving the interplay of refueling, outer-wall repairs and rest. When an available firekeeper remains during retreat preparations, refueling decisions also account for the hearth's condition. We have also improved how sufficiently recovered, automatically assigned watch personnel return to duty in line with the village's policy.
Carry today's timber into tomorrow's night. We have adjusted gathering and hauling priorities during timber shortages, and reserve allocation while wood sources regenerate. Accepted hauling jobs now continue through changes in candidate ranking; collection, delivery and processing were checked in an isolated environment. Repairs, fuel production and hearth recovery compete for real resources.
More confidence while you plan. We have fixed save/load shortcuts while paused, making it easier to consider your next decision without advancing the simulation.
Actual development-build screens captured on October 19, 2026 (Japanese UI in Unity Editor). Record-retention improvements verified in an isolated environment; these images do not establish availability in the currently distributed demo.
Keeping the first encounter. Even after a resident’s book fills with records, the Day 1 event of finding the flame remains visible. The same entry was checked after saving and loading.
Looking back on everyday work. The Day 74 entry about splitting timber and preparing fuel in the workshop remains in A Life in One Book after saving and loading.

These are implementation and improvement updates from the development build, not a claim that every feature is included in the currently distributed demo. Long-term balance, recovery and usability testing are ongoing.
Gather wood, stone, and food. Build homes, farms, workshops, and defenses. Residents' work, hunger, stamina, hauling, and building use affect one another. Prepare fences and gates and assign a night watch before the Shadows arrive. Damage and shortages carry into the next morning.
The free demo is available now. Use the demo download on this page to experience gathering, construction, research, night defense, repairs, rebuilding, and the demo loop of records and inheritance.
A village and defensive lines that develop from wood to stone and brick
Personal histories, village records, collapse and inheritance, and progression toward Day 100
Cave of Echoes: venture deeper while managing light and supplies, then return with discoveries for the village
Eastern Journey: returning travelers' reports lift the fog on the world map. Develop surveyed routes into contact outposts and pass exploration records to the next village
These are highlights of the full game under development. Additional full-game features such as the cave, journey, and world map are not a statement of what is included in the currently available demo.
We plan to keep improving long-term balance, controls, readability, buildings, research, calamities, record events, and supported languages. Content and implementation order may change with testing and feedback.

A night defending the village. A day someone offered help. A place in that person's book. We have added a residents' bookshelf to the development build of Last Civilization: Inherited Flame. Beyond how many days you survived, we want you to remember who shared them with you. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46289120/269caef08eb007b0a968d736b454b2122900f32e.png Actual development-build UI (Japanese interface, test save). This is not a naturally progressed playthrough. A named book for every life Each resident has a named book. Recorded days give it thickness; memories you bookmark add ribbon markers. Choose a book, then Read this life to open that person's existing life record. Switch between This village, Earlier villages and All lives to revisit both present companions and lives recorded in earlier villages. A memory after the night At dawn, the system selects one eligible, genuinely recorded even...

In Last Civilization: Inherited Flame, we are improving the ways you revisit residents' lives and read the information behind everyday decisions. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46289120/5420733b6116a2ac0f105567063a2e78a663ac5c.jpg A village gathered around the flame at night. This is an earlier development test screenshot for reference, not a capture of the latest UI described here. From a campfire story to the person behind it We are improving the path from replaying a campfire conversation to the participants' Life Books. You can check who told the story and whose memory it concerns, then follow the record of that night. Inherited memories also lead to records of people from a previous village. Reading a conversation pauses the game, giving you time to focus on...
Read full update on Steam ↗We have updated the Last Civilization: Inherited Flame demo. You can now select 日本語, English, 简体中文, or Deutsch directly from the title screen using native-language labels. Your saved language choice takes priority. If no choice has been saved, the demo checks your Steam language, then your OS language, and falls back to English. Your selection is remembered for the next launch. Campfire conversations now avoid repeatedly translating unchanged text. Thank you to everyone who has played the demo and shared feedback. Please continue to tell us about controls or text you found difficult to understand in our Steam feedback thread. Play the demo · Share feedback
Read full update on Steam ↗Protect the flame. Get to know the people who keep it alive. In Last Civilization: Inherited Flame, a village is more than a collection of buildings. Preparing by day, protecting the flame by night and remembering each resident should connect into one story. Following our October 7 demo update, we have continued improving the development build. Here is what we have been working on. Find the battle, even beyond the light We have added clearer nighttime presentation for residents in combat and subtle markers beneath residents and shadows. Approach and battle alerts can move the camera toward the reported threat, including battles outside the flame's light, before returning to the flame. This is designed to help you understand where help is needed. Natural-combat visibility testing is still ongoing. See a village taking shape Unfinished fences and walls use ropes, stakes and temporary be...
