About this game

Description

Supplied by the Steam store

The music sets the beat. Your blade makes the cut.

The countdown ends, the first beat drops – and with it the first note flies straight at you. You swing, the blade tears through, the note bursts into sparks and the controller kicks in your hand. From then on it's just you, the music and the next cut.

Your swing is your score

In Beat-Sensei it's not just whether you hit, but how . A hard, fast strike earns more points than a careful tap. Every hit in a row raises your multiplier, all the way up to ×40 .

Miss a beat and your combo is gone, but the song keeps playing. No abrupt stop in the middle of your favorite track – just the drive to hold the next streak a little longer.

Three blades, three completely different ways to play

Energy Blade: One blade in each hand, light and fast. You cut with both arms at once and quickly turn into a drum machine.

Katana: Two swords with real weight. Wide, clean strikes instead of frantic flailing – the weapon of the Shrine and Market trials.

Dual Blade: One staff with two blades, held in your right hand. You spin and twirl it to bring both ends into play – and in color mode the correct end has to land the hit.

When your blades cross, they throw sparks and you feel the contact lightly in the controller.

Color match: when your head has to keep up too

In color mode every note carries the color of one of your blades, and only that exact blade may hit it – left or right, or the matching end of the dual blade. A hit with the wrong color scores nothing and breaks your combo. The toughest trials demand 90 to 95 % color accuracy – at full speed.

From Deshi to Sensei: 55 quests with real goals

The campaign takes you through 8 quest lines across every world. Each quest gives you a clear task: finish a song, beat a score or hold a color-match rate. Difficulty climbs from Easy to Nightmare, and boss levels demand combo and speed at the same time.

Every success pays off: the Shrine quests unlock new katanas one by one – Bokuto, Shinai, Shirasaya and more. Master the line and you open the Shrine world and the Japanese song pack for free play. Your arsenal grows to 13 katanas, 8 energy blade handles and 9 dual blades , with 10 blade colors each for the last two.

Seven worlds, 260+ songs

A quiet shrine. A burning temple. A neon city. A black hole. A Chinese night market, a graveyard under a full moon and a rainbow world. Every world has its own mood, and 20+ note designs – from crystals and lanterns to lucky coins and ghosts – let you choose what you slice.

The songs range from Japanese and Chinese sounds to hip-hop, epic and psy, all the way to sci-fi and horror – most of them made exclusively for Beat-Sensei. In free play the notes are rearranged every time you play, so the same song never plays the same way twice.

Your favorite song becomes a level

Once you've mastered the campaign, the import opens up: drop your own songs as MP3, WAV or OGG into the CustomSongs folder and Beat-Sensei turns them into a level. The notes land where your music hits.

Good to know

Played standing: You stay in place and the notes come to you. No artificial locomotion through the world.

Your pace: 5 difficulty levels from Easy to Nightmare, plus adjustable note speed.

Headsets: For SteamVR and OpenXR headsets, Meta Quest via Link or Air Link (cable recommended).

Rewards: 34 Steam achievements for quests, worlds and your own songs.

Languages: German and English.

Buy once, keep growing

Beat-Sensei will never get paid DLC. All new content arrives as free updates – including the big expansion that's currently in the works.

Grab your blade. The first beat is already waiting.
