The two countries I announced earlier are in. Both are fictional, both are free for everyone who owns the game, and each plays by its own rules. Your saves carry over — lives you have already started stay as they are, and the new countries appear on the country screen when you start a new life. Two new countries The Kingdom of Westerholm — a parliamentary country. There is no presidential election. Win a seat, earn a place in government, then win your party's leadership to become Prime Minister. Elections come when the Prime Minister calls them, or when a government falls. The Southern Republic — a country of the plaza and the barracks. The president is elected directly, with a runoff if nobody wins the first round. The constitution allows a single term. Crowds in the plaza can lift an unknown to power or bring a government down, and the army is a political force of its own. In the So...
Read full update on Steam ↗Minigames More than 30 new minigames are now part of everyday actions — street greetings, market visits, speeches, fundraising calls, hearings, court and more. Each action rotates through several minigames, so you won't see the same one every time. A minigame now opens about once in four times. The rest of the time the action plays out and your skills decide how it went — the result is shown right away. Minigames you must play yourself always open: your office duties, the vote on a motion to arrest you, and TV debates. Winning a minigame boosts what the action gives you; losing trims it. Every minigame starts with a countdown, help and close buttons no longer cover the play area, and help pages show which keys and mouse buttons you use. Office duty games reworked: timers on each document, clear cues for when to strike the gavel, fair agenda scoring. Real recorded sound effects and new...
Read full update on Steam ↗Hi everyone! Here's what I've been working on lately. Minigame overhaul I've built 30+ new minigames and I'm playing through every one of them myself to polish them. The ones that weren't fun or fair have been cut. Every minigame now starts with a countdown, and the help/close buttons no longer cover the play area. I'm fixing judging issues, such as games that couldn't be won or that ended in a draw even after you crossed the target line. Actions won't be tied to a single minigame anymore. Several minigames will rotate instead. New art and sound New backgrounds and character art for the minigames. The harsh 8-bit sound effects are being replaced with real recorded sounds. Fixes from playtesting Action points no longer drain so fast, and when they drop low, the game tells you where to recover. Investigations and prosecutions now show why they started and how much evidence has piled up....
Read full update on Steam ↗The bill update went out this morning with bugs in it. This patch fixes them, and brings two things I was already finishing. Bills — fixes · The vote screen no longer says a bill "is the law of the land now" after the committee or floor vote. That line now waits for the bill to actually become law; earlier votes say which step comes next. · The vote screen is titled for the vote it shows (committee, floor, override), and the bill name no longer covers the tally. · The committee whip board now seats every member of the committee and asks for the same number of votes as the bill tracker. The override board asks for two thirds. · Your own vote could be replaced on screen by another bill voting the same week. It no longer can. · Things that happen to a waiting bill now happen to the right bill, and arrive while you can still act on them. You will not be offered a choice that only weakens...
Read full update on Steam ↗Hi everyone, this is the Political Life team. You told us the opening hour was rough: the money ran out before you could do anything about it, some windows felt frozen, and the game did not say what it wanted. This update is about that hour. Living on nothing was impossible — that was our bug, not your play Working a full quarter as an outsider could not cover that quarter's living costs for four of the nine backgrounds. The maths never closed. Living costs as an outsider: $7,800 → $4,680 a quarter Starting funds: $13,000 → $26,000 All nine backgrounds can now stay in the black by working The turn statement warns you in advance when the next quarter costs more than you have Mid and late game are untouched. Money still gets tight once offices, family and staff pile up. Windows that looked frozen When “Close the quarter” does nothing, the game now tells you why: an unanswered event, an...
