Load Factor is a deep economic strategy game about building an airline from a single turboprop into a global network — flown across the real world, one honest decision at a time. No infrastructure to lay. No menus of busywork. Just the five choices that have made and broken every carrier in history:
which aircraft • which routes • what time of day • how many frequencies • what fare.
Master those, and a hub emerges from the map like it was always meant to be there. Get them wrong, and you'll watch empty seats burn your cash on the runway.
Over 3,100 real airports on a rendered globe, each with real geography, runway lengths, and weather. Passengers don't appear because a designer said so — they flow through a genuine demand model that weighs distance, city size, connections, and price. Serve a market well and travelers route through your hub on their own. There is no "hub bonus." Hub-and-spoke is something you earn, not something you're handed.
Nearly 40 aircraft types, from regional turboprops to the A380 — each modeled on real payload-range physics. A heavy widebody can't lift off a short field; a nimble narrowbody can thread regional runways a jumbo never could. Buy outright or take an operating lease , configure your cabins, and match metal to mission. The wrong plane on the right route still loses money.
Live-market fuel prices. Crew, maintenance, airport fees, and distribution costs broken out so you can see exactly where the money goes. A weekly Route P&L that ranks every leg by contribution and hides nothing. Weather that cancels flights and tests your schedule. This is an airline that behaves like an airline.
Demand is fog-of-war — buy market research to reveal what a route is really worth before you commit.
Cabins mature over time: a fresh route starts leisure-heavy and develops premium demand as it earns its reputation.
Set company posture — service, staffing, maintenance, distribution — and feel it ripple through cost, reliability, and reputation.
Schedule aircraft across a full week and watch turnarounds, curfews, and continuity come alive.
If you've ever traced a great-circle route with your finger, argued about slot times, or felt a quiet thrill at the phrase "load factor," this one's for you. Deep systems, honest economics, and a map that rewards the sharpest network — not the biggest wallet.
Plan the network. Fly the numbers. Own the skies.

Four updates rolled into one. I held them together because they turned out to be the same job: the simulation already knew a great deal, and the game was doing a bad job of telling you any of it. I want to be straight about something first. A fair number of the entries below are fixes for things I got wrong, and most of those are here because a player sat down and wrote up exactly what had happened. That is not a small thing to do. Thank you. The demand, pricing and cost models have not moved. The only real change to the simulation itself is in 0.19, and it is a bug fix. Finding out what a route is worth before you commit (0.18) Routes, then Feasibility study. You pick two airports, pay a consultancy somewhere between $150k and $300k depending on how big they are, and you get a report back. Passengers a day each way, how many of them would be connecting over the rest of your network a...
Read full update on Steam ↗A small hotfix, almost all of it from your reports. Thank you. Fixed Busy flights now fill up. A route carrying far more demand than it had seats still couldn't get past about 88% full, the seat limit was being applied twice, so day-to-day variation in bookings could only ever take passengers off a flight and never put them on. It's applied once now. An oversubscribed departure goes out full, load factor finally tells you whether the aircraft is the right size for the route, and those routes earn noticeably more than they did. Fewer cancellations in ordinary weather. Cancellations were running near one flight in twenty-five, and most were happening in Good or Mediocre conditions that barely delayed anything, delays and cancellations were tuned separately and had drifted apart. Everyday weather now cancels about as rarely as it delays. Storms are unchanged: bad weather still costs you...
Read full update on Steam ↗You all told me the management side was too thin. Fair. So I went looking for what was actually eating your time and it turned out to be admin. Building a timetable by hand meant clicking in flight after flight, one aircraft at a time, making sure each plane got home again with a legal turnaround. That is a real job at an airline. It is also not a decision. It was soaking up all the attention that should have been going into the interesting stuff: what to fly, where, how often, and for how much. So it is gone. Say when the route flies. That's it. Open a route and add a departure, a time, and the days it runs. Want a morning bank and an afternoon one? Add a second departure. Want it Monday to Friday only? Untick the weekend. Your fleet gets assigned to it automatically. You never place a single flight. Aircraft have a home now Each plane is based somewhere, and it flies out and back fr...

Read full update on Steam ↗NEW Route and flight reports. Pick any completed flight and see passengers and revenue by cabin, local versus connecting traffic, fuel, crew, maintenance, airport fees, distribution, and what the flight actually contributed. Every route now keeps 4, 12 and 48 week history for flights, seats, passengers, load factor, fares, costs and on-time. UI scaling, 80% to 200%, in Settings > Display. If you play on a large or high resolution screen the interface is no longer tiny. Seven more aircraft, including the Cessna 402C and Tecnam P2012 Traveller. The catalogue now runs from piston twins up to the A380. DEMAND MODEL The estimator has been substantially reworked after a player stress-tested the New York airports and found it inventing traffic that could not exist. - It now knows about roads. Demand between two airports accounts for how far it is to drive between them, so JFK to LaGuardia is...
Read full update on Steam ↗FIXED - Alt-tabbing out of fullscreen no longer leaves blank duplicate windows behind. Every time you tabbed away from the game, Windows added another empty "Load Factor" entry to the alt-tab switcher, and they stacked up until you quit. The culprit was a Chromium flag that the Steam overlay helper turns on for every game that uses it - Only one copy of the game runs at a time. Launching it again now brings your existing window to the front instead of opening a second one. Two copies meant two autosaves writing over each other in the same folder. IF YOUR WINDOW RENDERS BLANK OR BLACK The flag above is a fallback for a small number of graphics setups. If you hit a blank window after this update, add this to the game's Steam launch options (right-click Load Factor > Properties > General) and let me know: --disable-direct-composition %command%
Read full update on Steam ↗CAREER MODE New Game now asks how you want to play. Sandbox is the game as it was — everything unlocked from the first minute. Career starts you small: turboprops only, economy cabins, domestic routes, outsourced ground handling, and a $150M credit ceiling. Everything else is earned. THE CERTIFICATION TREE 38 certifications across five branches, on a new Certs tab. They unlock jets and widebodies, premium cabins, international, ETOPS and polar authority, hubs and lounges, and better financing. Certifications are gated on cash and operating evidence — block hours by aircraft class, passengers carried, sectors flown, and your live on-time record. You cannot buy your way up the tree without an airline that has actually flown. Programmes take real time and you can only run one at a time. Nothing in the tree buffs your airline. A certification opens access to something Sandbox already has,...
