About this game

Description

Supplied by the Steam store

You never controlled time. You only learned how to respond to it.

Kairos: In Step with Time is an experimental interactive experience that brings together the motion of the solar system, the twelve sovereign hexagrams, the symbolic system of the I Ching, and sound-led interaction.

In Kairos there is no winner in the ordinary sense. You enter a compressed journey through a life, facing time that keeps drifting, a cosmos slipping gradually out of order, and six responses you must make. You calibrate the time ring until the sun, the earth, the solar terms and the twelve sovereign hexagrams come back into alignment, and at the decisive moment you set down a single line.

Every response leaves a trace

After six responses, the game generates your Pre-Heaven and Post-Heaven hexagrams. The first stands for the state you were carrying when you arrived. The second stands for the direction you formed while things were changing.

This is not a fixed prophecy about your future. It is closer to a mirror made of time.

An eight-minute lifetime

The experience takes roughly eight minutes. Real solar-system motion, the twenty-four solar terms, the twelve sovereign hexagrams and the six-line structure form the underlying map, turning an ancient conception of time into something you can see, hear and take part in. Between light, calibration, disorder, sealing a line and the final black hole, you move through one response to heaven, earth and the human.

The universe did not get smaller. Your own present moment simply came into focus.
