**Mix-shogi** is a brand-new competitive take on shogi (Japanese chess): throw away the fixed starting position, build your own army, and set up your own formation.
◆ Build Your Own Army
Every player gets the same King and nine Pawns. All other pieces — Rook, Bishop, Gold, Silver, Knight and Lance — are yours to choose: buy any combination you like within a 3,000-point budget (up to 17 pieces). Go for a few powerful major pieces, or field a large swarm of minor ones. Every army opens up a different strategy.
◆ A Living Piece Market
Piece prices aren't fixed. They change every hour based on what all players are buying. Popular pieces get more expensive, while overlooked pieces get cheaper. Reading the market and building a strong army from undervalued pieces is part of the skill.
◆ Free Placement
Your Pawns line up on your third rank, and you place your King and the pieces you bought anywhere on your first and second ranks. No opening theory — just your own formation against your opponent's. The player with more unspent points moves first, so you'll also have to decide: stronger pieces, or the first move?second ranks. No opening theory — just your own formation against your opponent's. ◆ AI with Three Difficulty Levels, Plus Online Play
Play against a shogi AI trained through self-play specifically for Mix-shogi, at Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced level. Online matchmaking also lets you play against other players. Choose from three time controls: 10 seconds per move, 3 minutes (sudden death), or 10 minutes plus 1-minute byoyomi.
◆ Game Records
Save your game records (kifu) and review them later to keep sharpening your tactics.
◆ Classic Shogi Rules, Fresh Strategy
Movement, promotion and drops all follow standard shogi rules. Mix-shogi keeps all the depth of classic shogi and adds two new strategic layers: army building and the piece market.
