One of you is The Thing. Others may already be infected. Read the room, lie convincingly and watch every card that changes hands — a mandatory exchange can spread the infection without anyone seeing what changed.
NECHTO is a social-deduction card game for 4–12 players that turns one shared screen and private phones into a tense table of accusations. The game handles the roles, hands, turns and rules. Your group handles the bluffing.
Run NECHTO on a PC or laptop and put it on the biggest screen in the room. Players scan the QR code and use their phones as private controllers: only you can see your role, cards and decisions. No phone app, account or registration is required.
Same room: one Steam copy and one PC are enough. Every phone connects to that PC through the same Wi-Fi network.
Remote groups: each location needs its own Steam copy running on a PC. Join the same room with the 4-character code or a Steam invitation, then connect the phones at each location to their local PC.
Connection note: the QR/IP address is local to the host PC. A phone must be on the same Wi-Fi; a remote browser or 4G/5G connection cannot open that local address directly.
Every turn has three phases:
• DRAWS A CARD — take the top card from the deck. Drew a PANIC card? It plays immediately.
• PLAYS — play an action card or discard.
• EXCHANGES — mandatory. Pass a card to your neighbour. This is exactly how The Thing spreads infection.
Actions — FLAMETHROWER, QUARANTINE, ANALYSIS, TEMPTATION, SHIP'S LOG and 9 more. Each one shifts the balance.
Defense — reaction to someone else's turn. NO THANKS, MISSED ME, FEAR, NO BARBECUE — play it before it's too late.
Panic — drawn instead of a regular card and plays immediately. Can't discard. Can't defend. CHAIN REACTION, OLD
ROPES, FORGETFULNESS — 12 cards of pure chaos.
• 4–12 players in one room or across multiple remote groups
• Private roles, hands and choices on each player's phone
• One shared screen for the table, events and accusations
• No moderator and no phone app or player registration required
• 28 unique action, defense and panic cards
• 4-character Steam rooms, friend invitations and achievements
• 17 interface languages
• Windows, macOS, Linux and Steam Deck
“Just don't pass me anything green.”

THE SHIP IS NO LONGER A BACKDROP In v1.5 we rebuilt the deck. Now the place where it is played has had its turn: the shared screen has a new structure, panic cards have become full scenes, and the space outside the hull follows its own physical rules. One command console Turn phase, active player, event description, pending response, alert level, current card, deck and discard pile now live in one central console. Duplicate bars are gone, cards use their true 5:7 format without empty margins, and the active player node grows in place. There is less instrumentation noise and more of the game itself. Panic takes over the screen A panic card now takes over the shared screen for eight seconds: the signal breaks, a CRT sweep locks in, the animated card appears and a countdown begins. Back-to-back events enter a queue, audio starts with the actual reveal, and the exact panic card remains in...
Read full update on Steam ↗THE INFECTED HAVE A CHANNEL The infected are no longer silent. They now have a hidden chat for their whole side — humans cannot see it at all: no button, no hint. The hive The channel is trickier than its own members think. Your name shows only along the infection chain: you know who infected you and who you infected. Everyone else is signed as "ORGANISM-04". You cannot type, only pick a preset line: typing at a shared table is visible to everyone, while a tap is indistinguishable from ordinary play. Nobody knows the size of the hive, not even the infected. Four cards against the hive RADIO SCANNER shows how many lines went through over the last three turns — no names, no content. JAMMER keeps the channel silent for a full round. BLOOD SAMPLE tests your neighbour, but the answer arrives only at the start of your next turn. And SAMPLE SWAP triggers by itself, returning "clean" regardle...
Read full update on Steam ↗THE INFECTION GOES CINEMATIC Key moments no longer pass by as a line in the log. This update turns them into full-screen staged scenes — with procedural sound built frame by frame. Global event scenes The flamethrower burns its target, the quarantine chamber seals around a suspect, a heavy door is barricaded shut, and the axe decides — lift the quarantine or smash the door. Each scene sounds its own way: the roar of flame, the clang of steel, the hydraulics of the hatch. Run the match from your phone Laptop out of reach? Not a problem anymore. Players can start a match by a unanimous vote straight from their phones. And if someone leaves mid-game and the match hangs on pause, a majority returns the table to the lobby without waiting for the one who's gone. You can vote for a new match right from the end screen too. A new endgame on your phone The end-of-match screen is reimagined: a b...
Read full update on Steam ↗This patch fixes the two most reported issues: Windows: the game now runs in borderless fullscreen instead of exclusive fullscreen. This fixes freezes caused by conflicts with background apps (launchers, overlays — e.g. CLaunch), and Alt-Tab / window switching now works normally. Windows: added a fallback windowed mode — launch with --windowed (Steam: Properties → Launch Options). iPhone: the on-screen keyboard now opens reliably when entering your name — iOS players can join the game normally. Thank you to the players who reported these issues!
Read full update on Steam ↗TRAINING PROTOCOL ACTIVE The most dangerous part of an expedition is not knowing what to do after the first alarm. Update v1.3 completely rebuilds NECHTO’s opening minutes: the game now guides a new group from connecting their phones to their first full match. Two stages of interactive training The tutorial is no longer just a reference page. It is a guided demonstration layered directly over the real interface. The Lobby stage covers interface scale and master volume, QR scanning, connecting several phones, and inviting remote groups with a short code. The Game stage explains secret roles, turn phases, drawing and playing cards, choosing a target, defense, mandatory exchanges, and the hidden spread of infection. Dedicated scenes break down barricaded doors, quarantine, dead players, direction of play, and victory conditions. Tutorial players and cards exist only inside the demonstrat...
Read full update on Steam ↗THE SIGNAL HOLDS Online mode is live — and this update makes it safer to use during a real party. Distant crews are easier to invite, temporary signal loss is less dangerous, and the table now earns Steam progress. Friend invites through Steam and Discord Steam Rich Presence advertises the active lobby for Join Game. Discord presence carries the room code and supports Ask to Join. Both paths lead into the same Steam lobby; transport stays on Steam Datagram Relay. More resilient online rooms Host migration restores the latest game snapshot on the new owner. Disconnected host groups get a recovery window instead of instant removal. Returning phones receive a targeted state resend after rejoin. Delayed stale leave events are guarded against. Lobby ghost players from disconnected groups are cleaned up before match start. Steam achievements The first Steam achievement set is wired in: 11 c...
Read full update on Steam ↗THE THING SPREADS FURTHER Until now, you could only survive the infection by gathering in one room. Not anymore. This major update takes Nechto beyond a single table — play together no matter where you are. Online mode — and it's hybrid You can now host a game over the internet. But here's the key: it's not either/or. A single game can include both the people sitting next to you by the TV and those who joined from far away. Part of your group in the room, part on the other side of the country — all in the same match. Local play isn't going anywhere; you've simply gained another way to play. Phone play — now fullscreen The phone client now opens in fullscreen — no more browser bars or wasted space. Bigger cards, smoother controls, and deeper immersion in the atmosphere of an infected ship. New languages We've added new localization languages — so you can gather your crew in even more c...
