The Protegee

After a lifetime of hiding her monstrous tendencies in plain sight, Sophie Laurent was thrilled to catch the eye of someone as powerful and dangerous as Lynch. Now, with blood newly laced with Corruption, she’d rather die than disappoint her mentor like those who came before her.

The Primrose

Lynch’s serum resulted in the reckless creation of a monster, but it was The Protegee who convinced her to make the move—a wicked seed that bloomed spectacularly. This Mosin-Nagant serves as her most exquisite reminder of the raw power her influence carries.

Skin Deep

Beauty is skin deep, but ugly cuts straight to the bone. The Protegee is a living example of this, wielding weapons as lovely as this pistol to serve up deaths that are truly hideous. Bullet wounds make wonderful drinking fountains, after all.

The White Fox

After The Protegee drank the serum and transformed into even more of a monster, Lynch gifted her a set of equipment to celebrate the beauty of their bloody purpose. This Ammo Box reminds her to embrace her predatory instincts with both grace and ferocious violence.

Her entire life, Sophie Laurent maintained the image with ease: Friendly. Meek. Harmless. Not even her own mother knew the truth, even as tragedy after tragedy befell Sophie’s peers and teachers at the private Catholic school she attended. To Sophie, all those “accidents” were her real idea of fun, and the best part of all was that she was the last person anyone would ever suspect of being capable of such harm. It thrilled Sophie to manipulate the focus of suspicion to fall on whoever she thought deserved it—the student who said Mary Shelley was a talentless demon, the teacher who favored empty-headed girls. Even if nothing ever came from the suspicions, it delighted Sophie to watch her victims squirm. Never once did anyone notice the ugly wickedness that bubbled happily beneath Sophie’s surface-level beauty.

Until she met Lynch.

Sophie had never seen a woman wield power and violence the way that Lynch did. It was intoxicating to imagine what it might be like if she could do the same, so Sophie decided it was time to embrace what she’d kept hidden for so long. She would learn everything she could from Lynch. She would become the deadliest example of beauty being skin deep in the brutal world of Hunters. And lastly, she’d do everything in her power to impress Lynch...all while making sure Lynch thought any ideas Sophie had seeded were her own.

Lynch rarely spoke of the twins she’d trained long before she met Sophie, but Sophie could gather that the resentment there stemmed from searing, clawing betrayal. She made a silent vow that she would never let Lynch down. When she first brought the vial of her new mentor’s blood serum to her lips, she didn’t hesitate before drinking it down. She was ready to become an active part of this wretched place that teemed with perfect darkness.

New hungers awoke then, and an insatiable bloodthirst that made Sophie’s soul sparkle. The serum didn’t change her appearance much, like it had for others—Sophie suspected it was because she’d been monstrous enough to begin with. But she kind of liked that. It validated the new vision she had for her own life.

She would be a figure that inspired fear in the hearts of Hunters, an eternally dedicated member of the Corruption’s deadliest duo: the white-haired witch and her white-haired apprentice.
