About this game

Description

Supplied by the Steam store

Gold Express is a side-scrolling arcade runner where a well-timed jump can keep a run going, and a badly timed flip can end it. Ride your minecart deep into the mountain, collect gold and treasure, and see how far you can get before the tracks get the better of you.

Mind the gap

Jump pits, grind rails and squeeze in flips between landings. Getting further takes practice, good timing and knowing when to keep your wheels on the track.

The further you ride into the mountain, the more biomes you’ll reach. Each brings its own hazards and mechanics to learn, so getting comfortable in one area doesn’t mean you’re ready for the next.

Stay ahead of the Danger Train

You’re not the only one using these tracks. The Danger Train will chase you down, leaving you to handle the jumps and obstacles with trouble closing in behind you.

But the train isn’t indestructible. Clear a gap it can’t cross, or turn the tables with a shield and smash straight through it. Getting chased is one thing. Sending the train off the rails is much more satisfying.

Take your chances with a mystery box

Collect mystery boxes along the tracks for power-ups that can change the course of a run. Pull nearby gold towards you with a Gold Magnet, double the value of your gold pickups, jump higher or pick up a shield to survive a landing that would otherwise wreck your cart.

Some boxes take you somewhere else entirely. The Mystery World pulls you away from the regular caves for a temporary trip into another world. You’ll have to find out what’s waiting on the other side.

Put your gold to work

Back from a run? Visit the shop and spend your earnings on upgrades for your mystery-box power-ups. Make their effects last longer and upgrade how often mystery boxes appear along the tracks.

You can also stock up on one-use items for a little help underground. An Eagle Lift carries you past a biome, while an Extra Cart gives you another chance after a crash. Sometimes a promising run deserves a second chance.

Find your next favourite cart

Spend your gold on new characters, minecarts and hats, and work through objectives as you play. Save for the upgrades you’ve been eyeing or buy something new to wear on your next run.

A different hat won’t fix your timing, but you might as well crash in style.
