About this game

Description

Supplied by the Steam store

She was fine when you left the city.

You picked her up for the drive to Ooty. Somewhere on the road into the Nilgiris, something followed her into the car.

By the time you arrive she is not herself. A stray dog leads you through the dark to an aghori who keeps a fire burning at the edge of the village. He knows what has her. He will give her back — but first you bring him what he asks for.

One lantern. One night. A list you did not write.

• Carry a kerosene lantern that lights a few feet of ground and nothing past it. • Navigate by compass through fog, groves and unlit village lanes. • Search a lake boat, an abandoned railway station and a house full of puppets for what the aghori needs.

Every door has a ritual behind it.

• Align occult dials to open what somebody sealed. • Rebuild torn family portraits to learn who lived here, and who did not. • Light shrine offerings in the right order while something moves outside.

Speak carefully.

• The aghori answers what you ask, in the way you ask it. • Dialogue choices decide what you learn about the thing holding her. • What you learn changes what it learns about you.

Things that are already awake.

• A doll that follows you between the huts. • A child trailing a red balloon through the fog. • Twin spirits in red saris that will not stop screaming. • And at the end of the aghori's list, the snake.

Set in a place, not a backdrop.

Ooty, in the Nilgiri hills of southern India. Tamil station signage, mud-brick homes, kerosene light, village shrines and aghori fire. Rahasya is built on Indian folk ritual rather than borrowed ghosts.

Dialogue and subtitles in Hindi.

You drove her here. Drive back with her, or do not drive back.
