Whenever you push two of the same tiles into one another, they merge into a higher level and activate their effect. This is how you swing your sword, shoot your bow, raise your shield and do much more. As the level of each tile gets higher, its effect becomes increasingly powerful; adding piercing damage, crippling your enemy or removing debuffs from your character. Just take care that your board doesn’t jam up, or you’ll have to take a rest to clear it up.
As new tiles are unlocked, you can start to mix and match between any pair of tiles that you have access to. You won’t have much choice when starting out, but that will quickly change for the better as you explore the world and start leveling up. If you’ve obtained the proper artifacts, you can even go for a purely offensive or defensive strategy. Just be sure that your strategy is sound, or you’ll end up as worm food!
While you might start your journey facing off against some insignificant opponents, you will quickly discover that not every foe goes down as easily. Each enemy will challenge you in a different way, either by simply applying a lot of brute force, trying to dodge your attacks or even manipulating the board itself. Be prepared for every situation and don’t rely on the same tricks working time and again!
Lucky for you, you don’t have to rely on tiles alone. Artifacts offer powerful ways to manipulate the board, create a temporary advantage or enhance your next move. As you explore the world, you’ll be able to get your hands on a wide variety of these artifacts. It’s up to you to find the ones that improve your strengths or reduce your weaknesses.

A big quality of life feature that I simply did not have the time to finish before release, was the option to resume your run. This forced players up until this point to either push through to the end or until the game got the better of them. Anytime you needed to leave halfway through a run, you just had to abandon it. The game did save your experience and unlocks, but it's of course much more fun to see a (good) run through to the end!So I am happy to report that this feature has now made it into the game! You can quit the game at virtually any point during your run and the game will simply pick up where it left off, or within a few seconds of it. This should make starting a new run a lot easier and less of a hassle, since you no longer need to ensure you have enough time to make it to the end.As always, if you do find any bugs, please let me know through the in-game feedback option...
Read full update on Steam ↗Thanks to the feedback from players, I realized that both the cultist and the treasure level were each resulting in separate situations where the board would essentially freeze up. You could still exit out of the run, but the board itself could no longer be used. Each were different issues, but both were fixed, so thanks for submitting your feedback! If you ever run into a similar state, please use the feedback option or shoot me a message on Discord and I'll make sure it gets addressed.
Read full update on Steam ↗Thanks to 夙无囿 for pointing out in their review that the game can freeze if you refresh the shop often enough. Previous playtesters had apparently not amassed enough wealth to trigger this condition or simply had found what they were looking for earlier. Either way, this bug has now been fixed, allowing you to refresh the shop as many times as you'd like! And in order to keep all this refreshing worth your effort, I've added 3 new artifacts to the game. Two of which will allow you to gather even more gold, for even more shop refreshes! Best of luck
Read full update on Steam ↗I found that it was possible to soft-lock yourself if you had a fully maxed out inventory and then went to the tile upgrade section in the rest area. So I added a cancel button to that, so you can easily back out of it. Plus I figured it's nice to be able to choose something else if you made a mistake. I've also seen pretty much everyone just completely destroy the final boss because by the time they get there, they're very powerful. So I increased his HP from 300 to 999. Let me know if you can still manage to kill him in a single turn now!!
Read full update on Steam ↗Similar to the bug mentioned in the patch I released yesterday, it was still possible to soft-lock yourself in a position where no more moves are possible, but the game doesn't register it. This time in the first two levels of the tutorial. Mainly the second level. Luckily this was an easy fix and now you can safely run out of moves again, even in the tutorial!
Read full update on Steam ↗I knew I had to have missed some bugs, but you move at a record setting pace! It turns out if you had any of the 3 artifacts that upgrade your tiles at the start of your turn and then managed to run out of moves to play, the game would soft lock. This has now been resolved. Thanks for being so quick to notify me of the issue!
Read full update on Steam ↗After seeing multiple playtesters miss things in the tutorial or just flat out get discouraged by the text block they had to read, I knew I needed to improve this part of the game. So with this update I've added indicators to highlight which elements require your attention, as well as improved the pacing massively. You now see each message one by one, instead of as part of a big text block, which was never a good solution.Quality of LifeReworked the tutorialImproved the pacingAdded highlight indicatorsReworded some messages
Read full update on Steam ↗Some players rightfully pointed out that the main menu was quite bland compared to the scene where you choose your character. And when watching people play the game for the first time, I noticed that the loadout screen gives a bad first impression because it's not immediately clear what goes where. While working to improve both of these aspects, I also added some nice transitions between each screen to improve the general feel of the game.Quality of LifeRedesigned the layout of the loadout screen where you choose your tiles and artifactsImproved the look of the main menuAdded transitions when navigating to a new screen, instead of having a hard cut
Read full update on Steam ↗I realized some players were getting stuck early on in the demo because the fights felt too difficult or because they put themselves in a sticky situation by picking a 3rd tile type right away. So I've tweaked the difficulty a bit, so it's easier to start out and made sure players don't have the option to pick new tiles for their inventory until they are a few fights in.BalancingLowered the difficulty of the first few fightsRemoved tile selection from the first few fightsContentAdded 3 new artifacts to help with board control
Read full update on Steam ↗Some playtesters noted a few more things to improve upon, so with the goal of getting the demo nice and polished before Next Fest starts, I made a few more changes.BugfixesThe tutorial no longer breaks if you go in and out of character select before reenabling the tutorialGetting stuck in the tutorial no longer forces you to choose from the 3 vials that you would in the normal gameYou can no longer gain more energy than the amount of energy shown on screenQuality of LifeAdded the same internal border style to the Artifacts window as the Inventory windowAdded sound effects for whenever an attack gets fully blocked or dodged
Read full update on Steam ↗Thanks to everyone who has played the demo and especially to those leaving me feedback and reviews! It's been really fun seeing people engage with the game. As part of that, there's also been a few small bugs discovered, which have been fixed in the latest patch that just went live.BugfixesYou can no longer access a certain locked character by going through the tutorialThe artifacts that spawn offensive or defensive tiles now also spawned upgraded versions of those tiles, provided you have them in your inventoryQuality of LifeAfter beating the tutorial, you are now sent to the character (and loadout) selection firstThe coins that spawn after you gain a bunch of gold no longer block your mouse clicks
