Hi, it's been a while! I'll go more into why in the "Status Update" portion, but first I wanted to cover what exactly this update is and why it was so important. VisualsThe visuals of the game were always a work in progress and bound to change. I didn't plan on that change being this big. There are still a lot of similarities in style and that approach, but the UI and rendering have both been overhauled not once but multiple times before landing on what it is now. I made the decision to switch the game to forward rendering after a lot of thinking it over. It was a switch that I personally believe made our game better. We just weren't utilizing deferred rendering to its potential for this game and the frames saved in the switch helped a lot. We had also originally made every asset in the game ourselves, and when you are a really small team working for free, it gets hard and tedious to...
Read full update on Steam ↗Major Changes Chapter 2: The Alkurai Dungeons, featuring new monster(s) has been released. Chapter 1 has had some major face-lifting and QOL changes for a better experience. Players have bodies!!! This was something I meant to do a long time ago, but I forgor ːsteamboredː With this came some changes to how the first person works and overall improvement to the death screens and immersion. Minor Changes A lot of small QOL changes were made that were requested and/or thought of later. The mini game from the closed beta is back in the lobby! It almost works all of the time too!!!! ːsteamhappyː Some AI changes again for the chapter 1 monsters. We just want to thank those of you that have been here since the beginning and are super happy to finally release this second chapter for you all to play. As always feel free to leave feedback in the google docs linked in the announcements if you run...
Read full update on Steam ↗This update has a little bit of everything and a lot of internal testing went into it. This came a lot later than I was hoping it would, but as a full time student and the sole programmer for the project it's a bit difficult. As for the updates, I'll list some of them below. Visual updates: Hedges were remade Grass was remade Some lighting and particles were updated Textures were updated to look more consistent Gameplay/QOL: FOV and Gamma sliders were added to the settings menu Particles were added that trail the players in order to make navigating explored areas a little bit less annoying A few items were changed and a better functioning "quest list" was added to give more clarity on what to do in certain situation AI changes and a completely reworked death/ capture mechanic that feels more grounded in the world, but can still look somewhat cinematic Optimization: The hedges and Gras...
Read full update on Steam ↗I said I would try give a dev log/ update weekly but was unable to follow through on that. I've been sick and had midterms so that kind of got in the way, but I was able to improve a lot of things. With that said this is a bit of a bigger update compared to last weeks. - Maze Monster AI has been improved again. I wanted to try something new and like it a lot more than it was before. She will now give some breathing room every once and a while to keep her from camping a single area. - All the scare scenes where a monster catches you have been completely reworked. Before they were a level sequence that would only play locally for each client. There were some technical reasons for doing it that way and they did look a little nicer in my opinion, but the other players would either not see the monster or see the monster standing still during the kill. Monsters now catch the player in real...
Read full update on Steam ↗- Private Lobbies now work correctly and as do steam invites - Crypt Crawlers have had their AI reworked to function better - Removed the Recommended Settings on game launch - The Gold Key no longer duplicates on spawn - Rare Bug where players would get stuck in the death animation so they appeared laying down was fixed - Maze Monster AI was updated to keep her from camping areas too hard - Other general small bug fixes I plan on making some dev logs soon and doing one update and/or dev log a week to keep everyone updated on the current state of the game.
