Valve assures Deadlock players hungry for its next big update that it will notify them, 'or order a ton of pizza', when it's ready

I don't envy Deadlock players who are dying to see the hybrid MOBA-shooter continue to grow in its pseudo-early access state. Valve is notoriously elusive when it comes to communication and has never made any promises to update it on a regular schedule... Read more.

    Matchmaking Update

This update includes a revamp to how the matchmaking system works, as well as the introduction of a new matchmaking mode. You can now choose to play in Standard Mode (unranked), or the new Ranked Mode introduced in this update. STANDARD MODE Standard mode provides a lower-stakes way to play Deadlock with friends, without worrying about adjustments your Rank. There are no restrictions on party size or skill spread. You can also play in this mode to practice heroes you are less familiar with, as the matchmaker will adjust the game it puts you in to account for your experience with that hero. RANKED MODE Ranked mode gives players a way to queue up for more competitive games against similarly-skilled players with higher stakes. Each season you'll be able to climb the Ranks and see how far you can go. {STEAM_CLAN_LOC_IMAGE}/45164767/f6a6d5724077ee5ea7b3b3701f4af907c9517df4.png UPDATED RANK...

  11. New Deadlock update aims to stop snowballing - and it's looking like Holliday season

Valve's latest Deadlock update is here, and this week is mostly about hero balance changes, although there are some notable tweaks that should push back against the recent trend for matches to snowball. I've sifted through the patch notes to figure out the big winners and losers, and I'd expect Holliday, Apollo, and Calico players to have big smiles on their faces. If you're more into Graves, Silver, or Seven, however, you might want to look away. Let's dig into all the important stuff you need to know before diving into the MOBA this weekend. 17. A new Deadlock update reworks the Urn into a more chaotic, powerful comeback engine

A new Deadlock update is here, and as ever the Valve MOBA is packing in plenty of changes. This is largely more of a balance pass than anything, but there are a couple of particularly notable extras. The first is an experimental redesign for the Soul Urn, which the developer is eager to hear your feedback on, and the second is a new Vitality item, Grit. Alongside that, the latest Deadlock patch notes are filled with number adjustments across heroes and items, plus some smaller tweaks designed to encourage more early aggression but slow down base pushing later on. Deadlock's latest update brings some huge movement buffs like jumping mid slide and 30% increased air control—it's a lot cooler than it sounds

If given the opportunity, I'll always choose to play as a little guy in a videogame. So for Deadlock my character of choice is obviously Rem, the littlest guy around. He's adorable, surprisingly strong, and very mobile, meaning I can cause chaos, swipe a kill, steal some sinner's sacrifices and then scamper away through the tunnels back to safety. It's certainly a frustrating style to play against, but lucky me, Deadlock just made it even easier to pull off... Read more.

The speed with which Valve is deploying huge Deadlock overhauls has me stunned, like I'm caught in the headlights of an Apollo ult. Deadlock's new Street Brawl mode is like a better version of the infamous MOBA 'All Random, All Mid,' but I think it could stand to be even more chaotic

I don't have children, but if I did, I'd probably love them less than I love Deadlock, Valve's work-in-progress MOBA shooter. It might be unfinished, but its anarchic invite-only test has served up better live service than most live service games with its constant reinvention—a habit Deadlock's carried into 2026 with the massive update released Thursday. That update brought a new mode which is almost my favorite way to play the game now... if it weren't for one critical aspect... Read more.

  28. Valve's new Deadlock update makes solo laning more viable, but you'll have to consider your push timings carefully

Valve has pushed out yet another new Deadlock update in the wake of its balance changes. The combination of hero shooter and MOBA might still technically be in an invite-only playtest, but getting access is more of a formality than a challenge, and its development team has been rolling out major patches in leaps and bounds. This latest overhaul isn't quite as big as last weekend's offering (thank goodness, as we're all still figuring out every last piece of that puzzle), but it does make some adjustments that could really benefit solo lane play. 30. A new Deadlock update completely transforms laning and progression, and I'm not sure Valve knows the meaning of 'small'

When you look at a game's Steam page and see the 'small update' tag, it can be easy to assume it's some bug fixes and minor tweaks. I didn't expect to open the new Deadlock update and find myself staring at more than 240 lines of changes, therefore, let alone ones that completely transform the entire flow of the laning phase. The hero-shooter MOBA is still very much in the experimental phase, of course, and years of Dota 2 have taught me that Valve is certainly no stranger to dropping dramatic overhauls on our heads, yet this one managed to catch me off guard.
